I have Iconboard, YABB, and Xsorbit... i used xsorbit b4 and it was great.

i saw demo for YABB and there is no dfference from Xsorbit

I heard Iconboard nearly like V-Bulletin.

Can u plz rate the best free forum???

I want one to fit on my site and nice looking with powerful features.

I like www.phpbb.com too. Just a week or so ago they released their phpBB 2.0 beta 1!

This one was released not quite long ago, http://www.openbb.net/ I've never tried but heard lots of debates for it's features and functions.

Also, http://xmbforum.com , installed on a site, working great!

As for http://ikonboard.com , the administration options in this new version is amazing.. not to mention those available add-ons.

i just liked the style of OpenBB. I will install it on my web site mcsdtalk.com but there is no search function in forms. Will try to keep you update on this.

Tried most of them, but in the end I was so frustrated, I bough VB. I've been very happy with it. If you want to save yourself alot of heartache, but break down and buy it.

i think you are right. Once i will get some visitors and see there is future for my web site i will purchase and install vb.

also remove URL [ /URL] these from your signature since they don't work. :D

I used XMB before I bought vBulletin. I've used em all though. phpBB is good, lots of features, has a pretty good community, but the way it looks and functions just didnt appeal to me.

Ikonboard 2.1.8 I didnt like at all. Its ugly, slow, a major resource hog, and full of security holes. Imo of course, but I had a very unpleasant experience with it. Never tried IB3, but I waited for months for it to be released. By the time it was I moved on already to vB.

XMB is extremely fast, very small, damn easy to setup. Looks pretty great, sharp etc. However it was extremely unstable and unreliable. I lost my board when I upgraded to Beta 3. The authors neglected to mention crucial steps and major bugs until a few of us experienced the problem, then they took action. The new version is probly much better than whatever I used last time Im sure.

OpenBB looks very close to vB, but I never tried it. Actually Hostrocket.com now includes it intergrated into accounts (new accounts only).

Commercial wise, I've used UBB since 5.x. But that was on Hypermart. Pretty fun hacking it, but man I hate uploading so many files and having to chmod this and that. Drove me nuts. Plus UBB is WAAAY to expensive imo. vBulletin offers so much more, and affordable too.

But if you want a free board, I suggest either XMB or OpenBB

For small to medium sites, Discus (http://www.discusware.com) works really well. It uses PERL, but the messages are stored in actual html files, so it's not nearly as resource-intensive as your usual perl/cgi board.

i just completed installation of ikonboard.com on my web site. Actually i checked VB boards about possible future upgrades from ikonboard and i found that guys are working on import script from ikonboard. so if i feel i should upgrade to vb i can import posts from ikonboard.

also ikonboard 3.x version have lots of new features and looks good.

ikonbards multilangual support is unique in all bultin board software even VB does not have it.

anyway i will not use that feature and don't yet see potential for purchasing $160 software when i can get my site running form free.

Mahinder, give me ur board url so i take a look and evaluate how good it is:)

I won't pay as I am running non-profit site and when i get money from ads i can spare some of it for buying scripts..etc
