A Duron 800 mhz beats a Celeron 800 mhz in all areas in terms of benchmarking. I posted a bunch of benchmark test links on here a while ago. Do a search and you should find them.

AMD is cheaper because you are not buying the name Intel on it.

My bet is to go with the AMD one.

Duron has 100MHZ bus the board can properly utilise 133ram and Celeron still is only 66MHZ which means it talks to the ram at that speed as well. Speed for speed I've found the Durons vastly superior over Celerons.

The Duron will be faster, and probably cheaper too... so go with it :)

I bought my 800 duron for 80 bucks about 4 months ago...no problems with it, speed is always great, and the fan I have is for a 1.4 ghz processor, so it stays pretty cool, and I can overclock this bad boy to the big 1.0 if I wanted but I dont need it, but I would recommend 512 megs of ram, only if you have windows Me or higher because 98 only recongizes 128...

It's 100mhz now, not 66.

Intel have been taking the p*** with the Celeron for ages, I didnt realise they'd gotten round to updating it, bet it still is outperformed by the Duron. I've been out of the hardware business for a little while (especially the Intel side of it :)).

That's incorrect. I am using Windows98 SE with 512MB of PC133 RAM and it screams. I've also tried ME and it works just as nice. The motherboard I am using supports up to 1.5GB of RAM but I do believe that 98SE only goes as high as 512MB.

Windows 98 will quite happily have 512Mb, and it will run slightly faster. But, after 128Mb, the RAM is utilised less efficiently, so you dont get the maximum possible performance from it...

I have 256, and it runs like it uses 128, so I am sorry, mine doesnt scream,

It'll be used - unless you have 1,000 IE's open or are working with large files or are doing video editing.

ONly so much will be used to Windows, the rest for application's. If you are doing normal stuff you won't notice alot, but if you have large amounts of stuff open or again large files - you wil.
