How ironic is your username? :(
NewtSys 10-26-2003, 04:25 PM My business partner just called from Cali, they are evacuating his neighborhood soon and Rancho Cucamonga (spelling) and Kerny Mesa/Mira Mesa and are shutting down MiraMar Air Station.
ugh!! This is terrible I feel for those families that have lost their homes.:(
sassSE 10-26-2003, 04:33 PM I moved to Texas 1.5 years ago. I have a home that I own in Claremont. I kept this home and used it as vacation home. That fire, is 2 miles away from it. It's hard to sit here and just "watch" from 1200 miles away. I spent most of the morning crying and frantically reading news sites trying to keep up with it....it's not easy.
cywkevin 10-26-2003, 04:57 PM Well one of the indian casinos burned so thats good.

God, it's on CNN almost 24/7 ... the situation doesnt look too good..
sassSE 10-26-2003, 07:52 PM It's devastating...(as I said in the earlier thread regarding this fire)
I moved to Texas 1.5 years ago. I have a home that I own in Claremont, CA. I kept this home and used it as vacation home (when I left Ca, it had a value of $260,000.00). That fire, was 2 miles away from it when I last checked (can't find anywhere where the fire is now). It's hard to sit here and just "watch" from 1200 miles away, wondering if my home will burn to the ground. I spent most of the morning crying and frantically reading news sites trying to keep up with it....it's not easy.
TheVoice 10-26-2003, 08:13 PM I live in the west los angeles area and while the fires arn't close, the air is horrible. Imagine everyone in your state having a bbq at the same time. Its hot, windy, and smells like something is burning. I can only imagine what its like closer to the fires.
etogre 10-26-2003, 08:41 PM It's raining ash near me, and they predict in a week it will be within 5 mins of my house :0
joshiee 10-26-2003, 09:14 PM ... man the car was covered with ash, the church, it was like they laid tar on the quad.. but they washed it onto the parking lot of course.. i hit a leave on a tree on myw ay out of a car.. man that was the stupidest thing i did today.. there was so much ash collecting on that tree..
HeatStroke 10-26-2003, 10:43 PM Well, several friends have been evacuated, over 200,000 acres burned, over 300 houses (LOTS in millions) and 11 people confirmed dead. Now, the fire is within only a few miles of me.

cywkevin 10-26-2003, 10:45 PM Well its raining ash here in escondido too. Terrible terrible air. Good thing my dc is in Texas(servermatrix) so the fire will only have an effect on me and not my uptime.
etogre 10-26-2003, 10:46 PM My high school is now an evacuation center.
No school, but when you think of all the people who have lost their homes, it's not much of a reward.
sassSE 10-26-2003, 10:47 PM Thank you for sharing those pictures (even the one of the 6 legged goat ;)). Are you near Rancho or ...?
Aussie Bob 10-26-2003, 10:48 PM Best wishes to all effected by this fire. :(

Wow, not too pleasant looking, hopefully things will get better soon.
The pics reminds me of 9/11 somehow.
HeatStroke 10-26-2003, 10:55 PM I live RIGHT next to Rancho Bernardo, but in Poway. I am right off Espola Rd. Its earie seeing a bright red glow just right over the hill. We are packed up and ready to go when we need to.
geesh.net 10-26-2003, 10:59 PM As everyone from BC knows, we had terrible forest fires like this earlier this summer. The largest fire was located at Chilko Lake in the chilcotin area of the province, around 100kms west of where I live, and we had several days of very bad smoky conditions.
There were several major fires in the province this summer, the worst consuming 100+ homes in Kelowna BC, and evacuating 40.000+ people out of their homes (almost half the city's populayion). It's a terrible thing to see, only recently we had a drive through Barriere and Louis Creek where one of the major fires ripped through, and there's devastation everywhere.
Good luck to those who are in the area of these fires, hopefully your homes will be spared.

I have many friends from there who posted pictures from that fire, my heart went out to all of those affected.
I pray that my home will be spared in this fire.. and if by some chance it is, I plan on using it to help someone who has lost theirs.
blue27 10-26-2003, 11:07 PM I don't want it to seem like I'm trivializing this situation, but I often judge natural disasters based on how professional sports reacts to them. (I am a football fanatic)
ABC has announced that they are re-locating the Monday Night Football game, scheduled to be played in San Diego tomorrow night, to Sun Devil Stadium in Arizona.
This is a first for me and it kind of puts into perspective the immensity of this fire.

I lived there about 15 years ago... Poway and Rancho Bernardo and used to love going to Lake Poway :)
I just got a phone call from my business partner again, he lives jsut outside of Chula Vista, and he says he can see the flames there too :(

:roll2:
the reason it was cancled it because it is being used as an evacuation center and there are 5k+ people in the parking lot
HeatStroke 10-26-2003, 11:20 PM Right now its 90 at 7:20 at night cause of the fire :( and my school is closed because of the fire.
anon-e-mouse 10-27-2003, 10:33 AM I have seen some awful film footage here on TV, that is one huge fire and to see all those homes burning is just tragic :( Let's hope for some miraculous relief soon.
