Hi, having to move from one company who seems to constantly get their entire IP range blocked by spews. I want to find out what people's personal knowledge is of Servermatrix - do they kick spammers off quickly and if any of their IPs do get onto spews to they sort everything out quickly?
Thanks

There is nothing that gets resolved quickly when it comes to SPEWS. No matter what provider it is, no matter how fast they take measures to get the IP's removed...it's all left up to SPEWS. I've seen providers work quickly to do what they can to get IPs removed and still wind up sitting on SPEWS for months...eventually just being left there marked dead.
So the bottom line is, no matter how fast ServerMatrix works...the time frame is in the hands of SPEWS.

Thanks for this. A little worrying! Spamhaus seems to be much better in that they do take action quickly. Is there anything that anyone can do or is there anything that anyone IS doing against SPEWS? Seems crazy that a faceless organisation like that has so much control without using it (in my opinion) correctly

The best way to deal with SPEWS, but also impractical, would be for all companies who get SPEWS listings to do absolutely nothing. Eventually, everyone would be in it, and networks who use the blacklist would be the ones getting the complaints, and stop listing the RBL.
Of course, in a perfect world, SPEWS employees wouldn't hide anonymously, would update their records, and would actually remove a banned block when the ISP removes the customer.
Unless you know someone who can launch another massive full-scale attack like that of a month or two ago, there's not much you can do against them other than stop giving them credibility by caring about their blacklists.

SPEWS no longer exists...last I heard they froze their records or blacklisted everyone...

SPEWS is very much alive and their lists are updating regularly.

ok guys - thanks for the tips. I'll just treat it as yet another little thing that I'll have to keep my eye on :) Amazing how much of running a business involves stuff like this!
Have a good weekend

The best thing you can do (and what I've taken to doing) is recommending other BL's when you find a mail provider is using spews as a blacklist. I've sent in depth mails to various providers on quite a few occasions, and this (usually) works.
Once you explain to the carrier using spews how their mail is getting blocked (legitimate mail), how they're losing mail because of how Spews operates, then they'll think twice (or any good provider will) about using Spews for any extended length of time.
