Should I change the hosting company? There's no problem yet with the server but it's just horrible if you know that there's no one on the other end...

If I change my hosting (bulk reseller), can you recommend me some good reseller-only hosting? (Not dathorn please, because they don't even support FrontPage -- my customer's most used programm).

They should have:
CPanel/WHM
FrontPage and FTP support
PHP,MySQL,PostgreSQL, etc...
Fantastico script
Good anonimity (means that customer won't see the provider's server name when they log-in to their FTP and not seeing the provider's address when they try to tracert it.)
All the standard stuff

I have a budget of $45/mo

Thank You

oops um, you're looking for recommendations? i just asked the mods to move this thinking you wanted quotes.

Sorry mr/miss mod person :D

I'm not sure how much space and transfer you're looking for at $45 but, i'd suggest having a look at http://vshosting.net

Yeah, just recommendation (not quotes) :D

Man... They are using 2CO, can I tell 2CO directly to stop my recurring bill??

Have you used vhosting so that you can honestly recommend them? Heresay doesn't work with recommendations ;)

Edit: And nukehelpers, have you used those hosts? Just cos they are nice blokes doesn't mean the hosting is great :)

anon-e-mouse: What does nice blokes means?

Man, i really need a new hosting fast. My current hosting doesn't reply 6 emails I've sent them in 3 days in a row! I don't want to wait till the server crashed to move to another server.

So, anyone can give me a hint?

XeroMedia: how's their uptime? Do they support FrontPage? Do they give me a private nameserver? Do they also give you a good anonimity?

Oh, and do they also transfer the accounts for free?

Loon

Uptime is good, and yes frontpage is supported.

Anonimity is quite a priority including private nameservers, anonymous server names and reverse DNS.

I believe they can help moving your accounts without charge, but obviously it's best to confirm that, perhaps send them an email? good way to check response times also.

Yeah, I've sent an email to them (and a ticket). How long have they been into business?

Loon

Dedicated server now?

Loon

We have clients on a server at BurstNet, an account with VSHosting which holds our main website and our support mail hosted by another host.

Ah i see i see... Man... should I just get refund from 2CO? I mean, I've just use the hosting reseller account for like 15 days with 3 accounts in it.

If they have just stopped responding and vanished on you then you would perhaps be justified in trying to get some money back, but if the server is running without any real problems you are still getting a service, just not good support, so if you only paid for a month and that's the case, i don't think it would be worth fighting for.

ozzie123
10-25-2003, 06:52 AM
Hm, yeah. But after a month, my credit card will still have a recurring charge right? How do I stop that?

Well, I know their support isn't good (they used to be very responsive). But I don't want to wait for the worst you know

Loon

Well i don't know if it's possibile to cancel a recurring payment by contacting 2checkout, but you should be able to directly with your bank. Though you should still send the host a notice that you want to cancel your account if that's what you're going to do, else they still have a right to keep billing you.

ozzie123
10-25-2003, 06:58 AM
Hm... yeah actually...
By contacting the bank do you mean close my credit card account?

Loon
10-25-2003, 07:17 AM
Well that's really a last resort. If you want to cancel contact your host first and give them a chance to respond.

ozzie123
10-25-2003, 07:22 AM
I don't know. Give them a chance in like a week?

Hm... this really pissed me off actually.

They have been a really nice guy and I think It's rude to just turned them down but It's my client's sake I'm thinking of

Did you try anything besides email? Is that their preferred contact method? Most web hosts prefer some kind of web-based help ticket system. Not answering emails sux, but if they have an official help desk system, that's what you should use.

Yes you can stop recurring billing with 2Checkout, you'll need your order number to do so.

do they have a helpdesk? if so, i suggest using that.

we, for one, do not offer 'official' email support - clients that email me or one of the guys at our personal addresses know full well that they will have to wait for a response until the recipient becomes available. naturally, if someone were to email me while i was away on vaction, they would not get a prompt response.

on the other hand, helpdesk is always staffed. perhaps you should make sure you are using the official support channels?

FrontPage is [or should be] functional on Dathorn's servers. Maybe you're saying that they don't provide tech support for FrontPage. If that's the case, then I can understand why.

I've read the post several days ago in WHT that somehow Dathorn closed their FrontPage support because it's too buggy for the system. Other than that, I don't know ;)

rusko, yeah I've also visit their helpdesk but to no avail.

They do reply to my email today and it seems that the host is only run by one person and currently he's out of town (that's what he told me)
