Ok.
First off, hi all...

1und1.com and my experience with them:
I was an average paying customer, I had thier 10mbit internet dsl, I also had a plan from them for webspace.
Little did I know but they were allowing internet pirates to hijack my internet connection, WHILE CONNECTED, they allowed other people to connect to my service account while I was still connected, result being that we were both (or more) connected to one account at the same time, something AOL doesnt even allow...
They saw this and decided to threaten me via mail, they gave me a few weeks to get all of my files off the webspace, and they cut my internet and hosting off.

I ask this, why did they allow somone to connect to my account at the same time while I was connected and not even do anything against it?

I ordered the Linux L package with 512 ram, cpanel, red hat 9, latest php + mysql.
All was going well, they have decent support lines, friendly tech people etc.
Where did this go wrong?
They gave us a cobalt server, a half linux that does not support mysql and does not support the latest php (supports one from over one and a half years ago though...) 256 ram, no cpanel and so on.
I am paying the same ammount as what I should be getting though, and they refuse to give the server they promised, meaning my site has gone down from first in a google search to around 15th because I use functions from the newest php, I made functions that require newer options and so on.
My entire database backup is mysql, my site is currently non functional because of this, pages show up blank, the forum doesnt even work...

Anyway hope this helps somone...
Anyone know of a good place to rent / buy a server with what I need?

A quick update:

Hosteurope just called (I ordered the server end of july...) and said they would now update the server so it would work...

Do they visit these forums :-)

So great, after months and months, and promises of server upgrades WITHIN one hour after requesting, they finally called and said they would update.

Edit: And lies...
They said they had no server capable of running php 4.3.3 (newest), newest apache + mysql etc etc...

Why don't you try other hosts? Can you still ask for refund?

The following providers have done us quite well with their servers & services.

http://rackshack.net (completely unmanaged)
http://nocster.com (semi/fully managed) - They will do things for you if you ask them. Sometimes there might be additional fee if you abuse them.

There are many more expensive providers but for the services they offer at the prices they offer them at, I would recommend these two.

We use Hosteurope for our corporate website (aminocom.com) and they have been absolutely excellent.
We've been using them for about 18 months now and there honestly is nothing bad I can say about them.
Server uptime has been great and we've had very few problems.
Tecnhical support has also been excellent, on the very few occasions we've had need to call them they have been professional on the phone and have known exactly what they are talking about.

For every bad experience there is usually at least one good experience - Hosteurope are a large company and have a good reputation, the main reason we went with them.
We've got no intention of leaving them even though there are cheaper options out there.
