What kind fo server is it Linux Windows? What kind of control panel etc.

Give me that info and and if it sonething I can help with I wil ltake a look at it for you for free.

what error you have?
are you sure it's a hack attack..? because it might be the max connections variable and, if too low, the mysql server gives an error that there's too many DB connections... had a similar problem once... this was the main error.
Also, check that you have the latest updates, cause it might give you the hack attack impression, same simptoms..

if you're asking me, not at this time and not for money, meaning I don't do this for a living. professional web design and development is my expertise.
but, the thread starter (sorry forgot his screen name) needs help, I know how unpleasant it is to have to restart your server every several hours.. and to loose money respectively..
So, without having the error, I can only advise to check whether you have the latest perl or other updates installed. then look at the max connections. then min timeout. I don't recall the parameters for it to work properly.
The most important thing for now is the thread starter to say what's the error the server gives. I assumed that, if he says he thinks his server is under attack, then it's not necessarily to be so..just might have the impression..and it hapens when the server gives too many connections..

I thought defacement meant someone hacked his server, put up a page that said bad stuff and he cant get into it to delete the bad page

not so much he cant get in, but they change the site i was pretty sure...
