I've begun the process of changing hosts and I registered my domain dearisobel.net with Host Ultra, the same company that I'm hosted with. So they configured it for my hosting account. I submitted a support ticket asking for more information about changing the name server information and I was told that they do not assist transfers in anyway.
Does anyone know how I could get this information changed? We use CPanel at the host.

U need access to your domain's control interface to change the nameserver pointing there.

Don't ask them to change the nameservers... ask them to give you the control of the domain name... take the password for the domain administration interface so that you can help yourself whenever needed.. !

Thanks :) I'm waiting to hear back from them now. It would be a shame for them not to cooperate since up until now I've been extremely satisfied with their service. I've just found a more cost-effective host.
I'd agree with bagfull here. Even if they offer to make the changes for you, politely request access to the name for yourself, and do it. Change passwords and all that, so you have full control over the name.
No matter how nice the person helping you, I've read time and again about folks losing names this way.

I was just informed that there is a $50 transfer fee for the domain. Can they do that? I don't remember reading anything about a transfer fee when I signed up.
Well, bad news. They have the contacts *all* listed as themselves. You're screwed at this point.
Only thing to do (besides paying up) is to complain to Enom with proof that they registered this name on your behalf, and are holding it hostage. No guarantees that it will work, however..
Sorry.

I reread the TOS and there is absolutely no mention of this kind of fee. Shouldn't that have been included?

May advice to you is:
(1) Register the .com version before someone else does. Spend $5.41 at www.EV1Servers.com - it will be money well spent. There are too many domain addicts on WHT and they have a compulsion to register any name that "might" be valuable in the future. (you might even edit out the original name in your first post).
(2) See if you have proof of payment for this domain name on your credit card statements (or however you paid). If you do, then you are in a pretty good position.
(3) AFTER you have registered the .com and you have have proof of payment for the domain, send a demand email to this Eric for him to put the domain under your name as the original owner or you will be forced to file a formal complaint with eNom and ICANN concerning his fraudulant business practices.
(4) If all else fails you can use use the .com version and tell Eric to hang himself.

I just registered for a new domain at my new host. This was my first domain and you know what? Shame on me for not doing more search on my host and finding out if he was any good. But thank you for your suggestions :)
Did you make sure you were listed as (at least) the registrant on this new one?
As for the other host, he should be ashamed...

It's for cyberpixels and I did some research on them this time, lol. I posted a few times at their board and there you get complete access to your domain so I'm not worried.
I got a reply from HU again and I was told that the fee wasn't part of the TOS because I was offered cheap registration because I was being hosted there. Cheap registration of 8.95 when I just registered somewhere else for 7.00 and I get a domain for myself.
