Hi all,

I'm about to embark on designing an ecommerce site for a small business but the amount of info and BS out there is overwhelming. I need a secure server, shopping cart, payment processor and merchant account (anything else). I was looking at the possibility of getting a hosting account with a company that supports the Miva Merchant shopping cart system, the only thing is that most plans that integrate this are about $50 a month which is more than I'd rather pay. Anyone had any experience with Miva Merchant? I found other inexpensive webhosts that go through Alabanza and include the alacart shopping cart system, but I was told it doesn't integrate well with payment systems, has other problem, and that they planned to charge for the service soon. Anyone know anything about this or had experience with it? I also found a free shopping cart kit called agoracgi which I could possibly set up but it seems like it would be hard for my parents who will own the site to make changes, as it's set up seems a little complicated. If anyone has any suggestions on a good and inexpensive ecommerce solution I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Michael

Hiya Michael

Have you heard of the Agora shopping cart?????

it may be a bit downgraded as to what you are looking for but it is on practically every Cpanel based account, These packages are very cheap to pick up but then again you would need then to rent an ssl space so i dont think i have helped you out much :( sorry mate

Kind regards BEN and gd Luck finding a host!

OS Commerce is an excellent alternative. Although, if it were me, for a single site, I would actually purchase a cart such as X-Cart, Shop Factory, or dozens of other reasonably priced commercial carts.

So with the oscommerce i suppose a secure server is required then, where as with a shopping cart it isnt, is it ???????

im new to this sort of thing lol, i am used to of letting paypal do my dirty work :)

osCommerce is a free PHP Store, which you can upload to your server, and setup. Its also very easy to skin.

You can then choose PayPal for payment, as its free account activation and cheap rates, and then use their payment gateway for the secure server, so no need for SSL :)

If your looking for something a bit more than that, You can use X-Cart & PayPal, X-Cart is awsome, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Kind Regards....
