Today in my computer science class, my teacher had is completely modified XBox in class (so he could challenge someone in Rocky, and if he beat him, he would have gotten an auto A on the final).

Once he turns on his Xbox, he can choose from about 15 or so games to load, no disks required, he has them all on the 120GB hard drive. He also apparently has tons of old atari type games he can play on the xbox, and did many other treaks like change the xbox logo color in the startup and increased the fan speed, etc. He claimed he didn't do anythign illegal, no mod chips or whatever.

That just got me interested in this whole thing, anyone mod their xbox with the 120GB hard drive? Or anyone have a modded PS2? Any good sites which explain how to do stuff?

Any info. would be much appreciated on this subject.

Dan

You can't do it without a mod chip. I have the one they call the matrix which is real easy to install, but limited on what it can do. The better one is called exo something or other and you have to soider this in.

Well the teacher gave the class an extremely challenging problem to solve, and whoever solved it, or came closest, could challenge him to Rocky and get an A if he wins. But really there's really no chance at all our teacher would loose..

No, apparently what he did was not illegal. He bought the games cheaply on eBay and copied them to the hard drive, after tons of work on the xbox with his partner (they both are experimenting with the xbox). He claimed everything he did was legal, and the roms you put in the xbox were "public domain", or something like that, and over 20 years old so he couldn't get in trouble..

WEll... no.

I agree that it SHOULD be like that, but microsoft doesn't want you to do anything to your Xbox.

It is infact ILLEGAL to edit your Xbox in any way... :(

Do people still buy Xboxes? I thought they were going down the way of the Sega Saturn...

I didnt think it was illegal to modify a product you own? For sure it would invalidate the warranty, but i wouldnt have thoguht it as being illegal?

It's not illegal to modify something that you've purchased, unless it can danger the public. Ask him to sign up for an xboxlive account and see how long he can stay on there ;)

The modchip reverse engineers the xbox. Go play on xbox live with it turned on and see how fast they lock you out forever.

If you are interested in modding the xbox look here (http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/howto/story/0,24330,3420568,00.html).
