Lol... no suggestion here, but I think they should've done some researches before naming the model...

Reminds me of the late 80's (not sure of the time frame exactly) Bush or Reagan went to Australia and waved to the crowd with the peace sign, only to find out that was the same as giving someone the finger in Australia. :eek:

LaCrosse is played in Canada too (as far as I know). Dumb name for a car IMHO, regardless. Seems to be to be similar to the Buick Soccer or Buick Baseball ... doesn't make sense in any country.

Now that would be embarassing.

The LaCrosse is likely named for the city (like the Bonneville, or the Seville), not the game. Or, just because someone in marketing liked the sound of it and it tested well in focus groups -- like other names that are just made-up words (Ciera, for example).

Plenty of car names that are regular words don't "make sense," especially in languages other than the one in which they originate. For example, the Golf isn't named after the game, it's in line with VW's practice of names influenced by terms related to wind: the reference is to "gulf winds." VW also had the Scirocco (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=scirocco&r=67). The name "Jetta" is derived from "jetstream."

By the way, if "LaCrosse" is being dropped because it's a slang sexual reference, why doesn't the same end come to the name "Hummer?"

Because:

LaCrosse = masturbation = can't get none = LOSER!
Hummer = receiving oral sex = gettin' some = WINNER!

There ya go.

Give it a few years, you'll get it, either that, or you're amongst a minority of married couple's with kids (if you have kids... if not, ignore this :D, kids make a big difference)

Yes, I have two kids (10 and 11). I still would like to understand the joke, however!

I learn something new everyday.

In Britain, a Hummer is someone who smells bad. And I guess LaCrosse is an angry Frenchman.

Ok, this could get wayyyyyy off topic, and apparently you have never "LaCrossed" in your life , so i'll stop right here, before this thread becomes X-Rated :laugh:

Oh man are you waaaaay off-base. I've LaCrossed literally THOUSANDS of times. In my early 20's I would have considered myself "LaCrosse Champion"!

To paraphrase, he was saying that while you might "drive that Buick" after you're married, you're not likely to be "in an H2." Especially after you have kids.

JayC:

Oh, I see. Well, fortunately for me my wife is more than happy to put me in the H2 on a very regular basis! From the sounds of it, I must be pretty lucky in that regard...
