View Full Version : Restrict the amount
hoster 09-01-2001, 07:52 AM How do you restrict clients to a certain amount of e-mail addresses, mailing list and Mysql db each client can have.
Like
10 E-mail Addresses
20 mailing Lists
10 Mysql Dbs
:)
jtan15 09-01-2001, 12:46 PM I am not certain about any other model than the RaQ 3, but mySQL does not come preloaded. So pretty much you get to choose how many mySQL databases everyone gets, since you need to set them up for them.
Cobalt has a system of "users". You can give each customer only 10 users, but this would mean that they cannot have, let's say, 9 e-mail accounts and 2 FTP accounts, they can only have a max of 10 different types of accounts. They can have one account which would have e-mail AND ftp in the one account though.

Does that mean that a host cannot give more than 10 POP3 email accounts per domain?
jtan15 10-09-2001, 03:16 PM Please excuse my wording ... you can give each user as many users as you want, I said "You can give each customer only 10 users" as part of an example.

Hello Vincent... maybe i am not able to understand what you mean by "users" and "customers"?
An example:
I lease a RAQ.
Then I host 100 sites on it. These are 100 customers, right?
Now each of these customers can in turn have a maximum of 10 users, meaning a maximum of 10 users as in 10 POP3 user accounts? And a maximum of 10 subdomains for these 10 users?
Am getting a little confused here. Please please clarify!
Btw, I checked out your site... nice packages, good features and attractive pricing.
Chicken 10-09-2001, 06:33 PM You set this amount. He was using 10 users as an example. You can set up a site with a 1,000 user limit. What he was talking about was that a user is *both* an FTP user and POP account user, though it didn't have much to do with what you asked, heh (well sort of -added)
Limiting is easy, when you set up the site, you type in a number. 10... 20... 30... 2... whatever you want to give them.
Subdomains are not assigned to a site, per se. The admin control panel only allows you to set up subdomains, just as you would regular domains, though there are other ways to set up subdomains (script, edit httpd.conf, etc.). All of this could be a long thread in itself.
Chang Lee 10-10-2001, 04:28 AM Ahh! Thanks Chicken!
So that means that Vincent was stating that user increments can only be in round numbers ie. in units of 10, 20 & so on... right? Please confirm.
I was browsing through the RAQ forum and was very impressed with your knowledge about RAQs! Plus the fact that you have a very large number of posts (perhaps the largest?) makes me feel that this forum is very helpful for newbies interested in a RAQ.
Thanks again for your input. Thanks to Vincent too.
Chicken 10-10-2001, 05:36 AM Errrrr... well round numbers if you mean *not* 2 1/2 users, yes... otherwise it can be any number from 1 to ???...
1... or 2... or 9... or 10... or 17... or 53... or 87... or...........
I surely don't hold all your RaQ answers, but a number of people in this forum started out just as you are, and are willing to help. Some with far greater technical knowledge than I. I'm just here too often and shold get out more :D
If you keep in mind that RaQs are nothing more than a modified RedHat Linux OS, with a control panel that sometimes causes as much pain as it eases, you'll be fine. I think of them like old VW beetles. Sure you can get a newer car that is more reliable and performs better, but ain't they so darn cute?
Added Note:
I'm not saying to lease one or not (surely I don't want to be responsible if you end up hating the thing and smashing it with a hammer). What I will say is that I find them better than reselling, and for the most part it served my purposes, and it may serve yours as well. If you aren't sure, pose the question in the Dedicated Forum with your needs and concerns and you will most likely get some good opinions which may help.
Chang Lee 10-10-2001, 06:10 AM No more questions... You basically have cleared up my remaining doubts which I had.
If you ever stand for PRESIDENT, you have my vote !!!!
