Can anyone help me I have an idea for an invetion or if it is already made please let me know
THE INVENTION
* for me I have a ssiter who Is constatntly tryin to gain my pass to my pc because it is a very good pc and has much to offer - but I never can prove she has attempted agian to start up my pc and try and get the pass correct and then she has to turn it off (NOT GOOD FOR THE PC)
I lock my door but that always doestn work cause I sometime forget!
But What I would like to make is a program that calculates how many times your pc has been startedup and keeps the times and attempts to gain the password to enter
Anyone would like to help or is there something like this?

You could just check the boot log (boot.ini) and see what time it was turned on.
EDIT
Sorry, I meant bootlog.txt

long back in the 80s I used to find banks and offices using a mechanical switch lock for the mains power supply similar to a car ignition lock and key.
once the pc was shut down the user had to use the key to turn on the mains again.
I think that was a good invention but somehow it has dissappeared now.

You can get keys a dime a dozen.
blue, I tried looking at bootlog.txt (never knew it existed before your post). But I can't see any reference to dates. All I see are entries like:
[00156FD5] (with text afterwards)
but no dates. So how can you tell when someone has accessed the computer?

If you enable log in auditing in your local security policy, log in and log out events will be logged to the event viewer.

Actually Vito, bootlog.txt is created everytime you start the computer. It won't tell you everytime your computer was booted but if you do a search for bootlog.txt on your computer, when the results appear they show the date and time the file was created. That would be the last time your computer was started.
Thanks, sassSE. I'll have to give that a whirl.
Damn, blue. Why are you so smart? I should just follow you around all day at WHT. I'm bound to learn a ton! :agree:
Who ever said getting an education had to be expensive?? :D

OK, now I'm confused. When I look at the "last modified" date of bootlog.txt, it shows 01/13/2003. Umm, 9 months ago does not compute. I expected to see today's date since today is the last time I rebooted...

I'm guessing one of those keystroke loggers would do the trick, eh?
