Argos23 10-19-2003, 03:09 PM Yes, I've done my home work. :cartman:
Search for a nice group of reseller providers, search threads in WHT, looking at Netcraft, thewhir, webhostingmagazine, well, sincerely, I donīt remember
With all that information I have visited 78 ( yeah...) providers, starting in the big-ones (alabanza,*******, etc... -I don't like their reselling scheme-) and finishing in those small-almost-independent that I see in the forums.
Send 24 questions (all answered).
So after all that work... I still have 12 providers!!! What is supossed I have to do? Try all of them?
Know what? while I write this I see in the top of the page another new to try... emm... so let's try...
But, please, could some of you enlighting me with some important questions to look in my future provider??
I definitely need some help... :(
Thank you alll...
NW - Sayed 10-19-2003, 05:49 PM A few questions i can think off are as follows :-
1) Where is the DC located & what is the type of connectivity ?
2) What are the server config ?
3) Back up policy ?
4) Helpdesk Facility ?
5) Do they have an online forum ?
6) Customer Testimonials ?
7) How long have they been into this business ?
8) Incase if you want to run some third party scripts, ask them will it work on their servers ?
9) What kind of control Panel ?
hmmmm..would any one like to add a few moe ;)
Cheers
efarmer 10-19-2003, 06:35 PM You have done alot of work, the reason why you still need help is you probably did not start with you.
It all starts with you.
Your skill set-e.g. you don't need host's help or need to be babysit.
Your purpose - e.g. websites you manage or sell hosting plans
Your willingness to pay - e.g. 9.95 for 10gb/100gb or pay host enough to give you good customer service & reliablilty.
It all begins with you.
Since you have done so much work why don't you list them with what you think of them so that you can help others.
Asverse 10-19-2003, 06:48 PM With such a large amount of providers out there, you are going to have to eventually just take a risk and go with one. It's good you have narrowed it down to 12. Most of those 12 are probably pretty good since you have narrowed that down from the thousands of providers out there.
Just go with your gut and pick one :)
Techark 10-19-2003, 07:45 PM My suggestion is do a search here. Check what others have to say about them. If they are a frequent poster here do a search on the user name try and get a personal feel for the person you are going to be working with. Sometimes you can tell allot about a persons ethics etc in the post they have made on various subjects. Form your own opinion.
Do a google search on them see what others outside of the WHT crowd has to say.
To add to the list NW - Sayed posted
Check how they handle down time issues, every host will have some, no matter what they tell you. Do they keep their customer well informed, do they have a backup site or forum in case the main one is down.
The hardest part of being a reseller is being the man in the middle during a problem your customers yelling at you and you having no answers and no way to fix anything.
There are several good host that will fit that bill for you, the next thing you have to do as efarmer said is determine your budget and what you are willing to pay. Keep narrowing it down until you get to a short list of 2 or 3 then pick one and run with it.
The most important thing is to avoid the 20 gig 200 gig for $10.00 a month host that claim they do not oversell.
Argos23 10-25-2003, 02:08 PM Yep, it's me again. First, thank you all for your advice.
Well, I reach 90 hosting sites visited, with 32 questions sended and only one not responded: rochen, which is something strange as I see good reviews about them and was in my Top Ten...
Nw, your list help me narrow a little bit my selection (and you're well positioned in my list) , but efarmer and asverse give me the key: sometimes you are so obsesed with something that you forgot your main purpose.
I was looking for a good provider, and not exactly the best, as I am a newby and probably don't know how to "taste and enjoy" that excelence.
But, efarmer, list all my research here? It must to be a joke!! They will ban me!! :D Also, I Think you don't need any advice about people like ev1 (and they don't sell shared reselling).
But I'll tell you about things I like and regret.
Argos23 10-25-2003, 02:51 PM Well first at all, these are only my impressions. If you think I'm wrong I'll be happy to hear it from you.
Well the first thing I have to say is that I'll NEVER go with a company that includes in her name words like "gator" "mongo" and others. I supose there is people thinking that words are funny but for me it's just not serious.
Second thing, I don't purchase from people that has exactly the same template as any other site in the same bussines, unless they're related. If you sell lipsticks and you have the same design as other company selling headsets then it doesn't matter. But if you are in the Internet industry you can't have almost exactly the same site as other company. Change at least the background...
Of course, I avoid all that "unlimited"," forever","cheapest" sites. The reason is the same: I take it seriously, so you have to do the same. And you can't use the same words to sell kiddies and serious companies.
One thing I'd like, and some people do it (at least partially), is read the things you don't give. Trying to hide it doesn't runs always. And trying to hide your out-limits charges (sp/bw) can only make to bale unaware customers. Don't you think so?
Well, let's go with reviews:
ozzie123 10-26-2003, 09:17 AM Hm... what are the hosting that you're looking anyway? Might give you a hint
Argos23 10-26-2003, 02:03 PM Thank you, Simon, I know...:)
And hey! Guys I'm NOT looking here for more hosting companies. I think I have more than enought :D
Thanks all.
