Well, I followed all --i think-- the instructions from the WHT forums; however, my domain registrar registerfly.com still says "failure" when I try to get the DNS up. Also, the name servers were set up by dotster.com. Is there like a "firewall" blocking mydomain.com from using the nameserver (ns1.otherdomain.com and ns2.otherdomain.com) that is registered by dotster.com?

here's what I have done to my server, please see if I missed:

-Setup a virtual site ns1.domain.com with IP1.
-Setup a virtual site ns2.domain.com with IP2.
-A record ns1.domain.com to IP1.
-A record ns2.domain.com to IP2.
-PTR record IP1 to ns1.domain.com.
-PTR record IP2 to ns2.domain.com

/control panel/ network /
Gave the ip of the Primary DNS Server & Secondary DNS Server
After you enter that information press Save Changes

Start of Authority (SOA) Configuration
Gave the ip of the Primary DNS Server & Secondary DNS Server
After you enter that information press Save Changes

I rebooted too, just in case it wasn't refreshing quick enough. Still "UPDATE DNS FAILED"

thanks!

It will take between 24 to 48 hours for the DNS to be populated and probably that is what you are facing. However, to be able to test if everything is properly set up, telnet into your Raq and do a ping of that domain name. If it works, all you need is to wait and be patient. At least, what is on your server is properly setup.

eddy,

I know the name servers are up and registered. I checked the nsiregistry just in case. However, I cannot ping the domain name and it does have the two name servers that I set up on the dotster registry thingy. Any reasons why it could not be able to ping?

Hi,

Well, the SOA Primary and Secondary DNS should be the actual DNS Domain Name and not the Numeric IPs.

If the DNS is set up Dotser, then you would have to make all the DNS settings for all your sites on the Dotser service instead of that on your RAQ.

for the SOA I put the ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com

also, i used dotster to register the nameservers, but not for the dns hosting... hope i can get this dns stuff working soon

Telnet into your Raq and do a ping of one of the Domain address on the server and see if it gives you any reply.

If it is able to ping and give you an ip address then the setup on the Raq is alright and the messed up is on Dotster's system.

If you cannot ping your domain name then the problem is a set up on your Raq.

See if you can ping and telnet the ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com from your own computer. It is to confirm if the DNS are probably set up.

You can use the services of http://www.tracert.com to test from various locations.
