How can I setup a reserve DNS for webhostingtalk's IP address?

Well, it looks like you'll have to convince Above.net to delegate the reverse DNS to voxel.net first; once you've convinced them to do that it should be easy to get voxel.net to set up the appropriate entry.

Or you can simply ask Above.net to enter the reverse entry.

Please let me know in detail. How the reverse DNS is setup?

Jolly,

Here is a google DNS list.
http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Protocols/DNS/

Everything you need is right there. I suggesting getting one of the following books (or both).
DNS & Bind by O'reilly
Linux DNS Server Administration by SYBEX

If you really want good reading, read the RFC's
http://www.dns.net/dnsrd/rfc/

You can only do do the reverse DNS yourself if you've been specifically given control of your IP(s). Most hosts won't give you reverse authority unless you have a full class C. I think it's possible to delegate less than that, but it's not common.

I think, if Voxel.net is the one controlling the border routers and routers then they can configure your IPs to do reverse lookups. I don't see any difference in site performance if rDNS is set or not.

In fact, we just set up rDNS on our servers main IP and disable rDNS on virtual IPs. We have to setup rDNS on the main IP of our machines b/c some mail servers will not relay email if there are no rDNS.

We've also noticed that on a Cisco7200s , once you have over /19 IP blocks routed thru it, the routers can no longer do rDNS on the extra IPs over the /19 block limit.*
*I could be wrong though :)

Last I remembered, Above.net doesn’t actually delegate reverse IP address authority (in-addr.arpa)'s to their clients DNS server. Instead what they do is perform zone transfers from a given IP. But that was several years ago. You need to ask above.net how to setup your stuff.
