AL-Benjamin 08-30-2001, 07:04 PM Why did you guys elect this guy?
(being british though i can't talk with that chesire cat sitting in downing street!)
CagedTornado 08-30-2001, 08:02 PM Why I voted for Bush:
-Less government
-Lower taxes
-More freedom
-Personal responsibility (yes, he actually takes personal responsibility for actions)
... oh, and he's got more class than any aristocratic Brit ever will.
:D
Gotta love it, baby...

Lets not forget, Gore won the popular vote ;)

Sorry i don't understand this one. How does Bush actually get elected when the bulk of the 'people' voted for Gore?
I know it has something to do with electoral coleges. Why bother to have a 'popular' vote if it doesn't actually mean anything?
Vote Lib Dem! thats what i say!

US presidents are not elected by direct popular vote. Winners are decided by having a majority of what are called electoral votes that are cast by the states. Each state has a certain number of electoral votes.
There's some info at http://www.fec.gov/pages/ecworks.htm if you're interested. :)
CagedTornado 08-31-2001, 06:23 PM Or actually read the constitution... it's not a difficult read. You'll notice that there is NO MENTION of a 'vote of the people'. (Sorry if you're disappointed -- but it's actually a select few who have always decided who the president is, even in the year 2000).
The vote of the people is a nice 'facade' (that Democrats played to their full advantage this past year) -- but in reality, it's the electoral college that picks a president.
Think I'm full of s**t? Think again:

Something has definately gone wrong with the UK, they dont have the slightest clue, labour make mistake after mistake and still people dont seem to care.
Heard one of the latest ones? Police are to no longer patroll in pairs, they must now do their beats alone, thus they will be spread out more and the public will be more assured as their presence on the street will appear to be greater. I think its got a couple of coppers killed already.
Churchill was right when he wanted us to throw in our lot with america after the war.

It's not just the UK. In the better part of the world in general, our countries are lead by the team "that doesn't suck as much as the other guy". In all honest it's very hard to see a single world leader right now with the qualities that a leader should have. There's a couple that shine a bit in developing areas I af=gree but here in the 1st world countries everything seems to be a little stagnant at the moment.
Unfortuantely it usually takes a world crisis like war to bring the 'leaders' out, but to be honest I think I'd prefer the dullards in that case. :)
Though Dubya seems pretty intent on getting another war underway...
