Hi

I am just looking to start a topic, but I read that now porn/warez sites are getting worse to your pc...

Most now when you visit them immediately gain/can acces to your pc or cause viruses without downloading anything!?!?!

CRAZY!! - I will try and find that post it was somewhere on another forum like this I cam across

Is this possible - is this true?

If so PROTECT yourself -- but how and what to get??

It doesn't surprise me. Just go to Best Buy to get your stuff.

...and the Adult Video Store for that matter.

Though I doubt the truth of these claims, I think a perfect way of protecting yourself would be to not visit sites like these, perhaps?

Actually that isn't as silly as it sounds. We tossed a thread yesterday that was reported as a warez link. Of course we need to check them out. Later in the day I restarted my computer and when everything had loaded, my AV program popped up a sven.a virus message.

Judging by the description on this site http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=158 it comes either from an email attachment or Kazaa. I haven't received any attachments in emails and wouldn't click them anyway (even with AV protection) and I have never used Kazaa.

Apart from various forums and google, the warez site was the only other one I had visited.

I've seen sites install software without prompting.

LET'S HEAR IT FOR MEDIA SCARE TACTICS! YEAH!

sigh... i don't really care, if you're using any resonable measure of security to protect yourself, then you're gonna be safe.

I've seen sites install software without prompting.
use a better browser, or a better operating system for that matter, the fault that that type of software gets installed on your computer, is because A) your browser has been poorly configured B) spammers / crackers have found a new route around you.

yeah... the bad thing about ditching in the middle of a post, is that you forget what exactly you're typing about...

yeah...

Malicious websites have been installing trackers, viruses and keyloggers onto computers for years. The key is to maintain an up to date computer - always, as well as keep those firewall and anti-virus programs current.

The virus writers, etc... certainly work faster than software vendors.

Ugh... time to update Windows, again.

My current computer is the only one I've owned in years that ran Windows. Why did I ever downgrade... :(

The reason you 'downgraded' to Windows.

I'm not a video game person. I do own an Atari though... :)
