Just like any other web hosting business, if you put time, effort and investment (personnal and financial), it will be profitable. Of course it's not a get rich fast scheme, but it could earn you some serious bucks if you do it right.

Some of the most important things NOT to forget:

- Never lie to your customers
- Support your customers, even if you have to go an extra mile.
- Offre a solid, reliable, yet affordable service

It's good to have a good web site too, that's the first thing your potential customers will see from you.

I agree with Ericd. Also reselling is the best way to start in web hosting business because basically you get your feet wet first. You'll learn how to run it effectively before jump into getting a dedicated server.
