View Full Version : notice before closing threads
in the past week or so a few of my threads have been closed, without notice, why don't hte moderators give a notice as to why they are closing a thread, prior to closing it?
this way, a lesson is learned.
TopHostSupport 10-15-2003, 03:51 PM I agree and have noticed this alot lately.
ubergeek22 10-15-2003, 04:22 PM No offence, but if so many of your threads are being closed maybe it's time you thought before you post? The lounge is littered with rubbish and the mods have every right to close threads that contribute nothing.
On a more general note, surely the mods inform of the reason for a thread closure?

Most times they'll post a short explanation as to why they closed the thread, as the final post. I've seen that a lot and that's ok. :)
SoftWareRevue 10-15-2003, 05:09 PM We don't say who or why much any more. We've found it has lessoned the "WHT Mods had no right . . ." kinda threads. If a thread is closed, it's closed for a reason. You can always use the email link that's at the bottom of every page if want to contact someone for a specific reason.
i have emailed moderators@webhostingtalk.com about 5 times in the past, and have never recieved a reply.
and sometimes, you'll even reply to a thread with the reason it's being closed or deleted, and then 12 seconds later, you'll just move it over to another forum which members don't have access to .
Artashes 10-15-2003, 08:34 PM We reserve the right to remove, modify or move posts at our discretion and without explanation. If you have any questions, please e-mail the moderators.
WHT BIBLE.
PS: If your thread is closed that means there was something that wasn't OK. Isn't this the way to learn?

the whole foundation on a bulletin board is that one person starts a thread, and people reply to it. It could be another persons' comments which close the thread down, they owe us an explanation as to why our 1st ammendment rights are being violated.
Artashes 10-15-2003, 08:47 PM I agree with you. But that is why the rules tells you to e-mail Mods if you'd like to know why.
But forum (like this one and many other ones) is a private property and the owner has a right to do absolutely anything on it without your consent. That would NOT be a violation of your 1st ammendment right.
Best,

During the registration process, we agree to WHT rules and guidelines. This is a private forum. Not a public establishment or arena. I don't think 1st Amendment rights apply in this case.

This forum is considered public property, and we reserve the right to censor posts as we see fit.. Posting here is a privlegdge.. Not a right..
Normally we will just clean a topic that goes to far off, or becomes a flame war, but if something has so many posts to be worth cleaning, we will either lock it, or toss it..
Sometimes we do not reply to topics, as SWR said, it keeps fighting down when we don't make explainations.. If the thread starter wants an explination they can email us.. Sometimes it may take days to get a responce.. And sometimes mail does slip through...
:D
SoftWareRevue 10-15-2003, 11:33 PM Uh-oh . . . . He played the "First Amendment Rights" card.
Well, we know where this thread's headed now.
Oh Wait. Seems it's already there.

You can probably search for "First Amendment" as I believe I addressed this about 8 times in the year 2000 alone.
*is glad he doesn't have to field any of the questions in this form anymore*

akashik 10-18-2003, 10:06 AM Amazing... I've been here for over three years and have well over 6000 posts under my belt and have never had a thread closed. In fact, from memory, I've only had two posts edited by moderators in that time.
You get threads closed for being an ass. You get posts edited... for being an ass. You get banned (ready for it).. for being an ass.
Rule of thumb.. Don't be an ass. ;)

I agree with you for the most part Greg. Thread can be closed and/or edited if you are being an ass but to get your account suspended, you have to be an Incredible Ass.
