View Full Version : Merchant Account Recommendation
Eric Lim 10-15-2003, 01:33 AM After all the troubles with third party merchant account, I have finally decided to switch to a real merchant account. Thinking to get full control over all the customers' billing invoices and information can be very important.
I have looked through e-colinedata (modernauthorize)m echo-inc, and bluepay.
While I am still new and have no experience on real merchant service, I need some of your recommendations here. Anybody here that has used any real merchant services before is more than welcome to comment.
Thank you.
mruge 10-15-2003, 02:03 AM I use PayQuake. I have the Pay for Play account. It has a higher discount rate and transaction fee, but I pay no monthly fees. They also offer free Authorize.net interface.
Check them out: http://www.payquake.com

Taylor 10-15-2003, 02:13 AM I just signed up for www.merchantexpress.com so far they have been extremely friendly and helpful.
VanHost 10-15-2003, 02:30 AM Talk to CDGCOMMERCE (member of this forum). They have a promo going on right now for WHTers. http://www.cdgcommerce.com/whtpromo/
Plus they use Authorize.net as their gateway. Now if you are located in Canada, this is a totally different ball game. If you want a general price comparison, check out my signature.
Thanks, and good luck!
Eric Lim 10-15-2003, 05:07 AM More recommendations are welcomed. Just need to gather more information before making the choice. The decision has to be absolutely right. :)
Thanks in advance.
VH-Robert 10-15-2003, 06:37 AM Stick with modernauthorize.com which is through e-onlinedata.com. You won't be sorry.
Reality Hosting 10-15-2003, 08:26 AM I second Vanhost's comments. CDGCommerce knows his stuff.
matrosov 10-15-2003, 01:47 PM I vote for Verisign/Merchant-esolutions combo. Competitive rates turnaround time to deposit money into my business account is one day. Straightforward reporting tools been using them for two years with no problems at all.
Shannara 10-15-2003, 02:39 PM Hmm, Im looking (quite soon, read 1/1/05) to open up my website which will have a custom created cart, created by me, which will need me to use APIs w/ asp.net (vb.net) for credit card purchases, echecks, and whatever else is possible for payments.
The reason it is custom, is due to the website & store's tie-in to the game server (also custom :D) So.... will any of the above helpful in such a situation?
I dont want to sign up, then find out later that they cannot provide any apis to work with asp.net/vb.net
VanHost 10-15-2003, 02:55 PM Shannara - I'm not sure about the answer to your question. I do know that Chris (CDGCOMMERCE) is a very honest person. If he says he can do something, he can. If he can't do something, he WILL tell you. Best thing would be to contact any potential merchant providers and ask. Any reputable one should give you a direct answer.
Another option, is you could write your own custom API's to work with a popular gateway (ie. Authorize.net, etc) and then find a merchant provider that uses that gateway.
Good luck.
Asverse 10-15-2003, 03:35 PM I agree with LegacyCX. ModernAuthorize/eOnlineData has been very helpful to me. I have used them twice in the past and am currently using them. I have not regretted going with them ever.
Eric Lim 10-15-2003, 05:43 PM Thanks for all the suggestions. I emailed and called quite a lot of people over the last 24 hours, and hopefully I will be getting their replies soon. It seems like the companies who offer merchant service never replied their emails within the first 1 or 2 days.
Again, all comments are still welcomed. :)
Shannara 10-15-2003, 06:54 PM I have to thank people as well :) Im going to use CCTranMan for my site & game because it allows you to use Wells Fargo/Authorize.NET from both the web AND from any windows application. This is a must for me as I want people to be able to purchase virtual cards directly from the game itself :)
So I'll be using Wells Fargo w/ Authorize.NET for both my merchant account and business bank account needs :D
Thanks again everybody. :D

Well... I replied to you within 3 hours. And that was pretty slow by my standards. I usually aim for < 30 minutes. :)
All kidding aside, I do appreciate the kind words from some of the folks in this thread.
freakb0y 10-27-2003, 09:21 PM Anyone else use PayQuake? Godaddy.com is a partner/reseller now and allows to get a bit of a break on PayQuakes services.
I'm currently trying to decide between PayQuake and Modern Authorize.
CDGCommerce, I've been trying to get to your site for a few days now, and can't get it to display in Mozilla or IE. You may want to look into that.
cdgcommerce 10-27-2003, 09:52 PM Really? I've tested it with both IE and Netscape and it comes up
fine. Anyone else have any trouble accessing it?

Works fine for me, using:
Opera 7.21 - Linux & Windows
Mozilla 1.2.1 - Linux
Mozilla 1.5b - Windows
Netscape 4.8 - Windows
Netscape 7 - Windows
IE 6 - Windows
cdgcommerce 10-27-2003, 10:20 PM Cool. And hey - thanks for checking it out so thoroughly. :)

Interesting concept...I would take advantage of this too but they don't support CDN based businesses!
cdgcommerce 10-28-2003, 06:54 PM LOL... yes, I bet our customer base would triple over night with a
-2% discount rate and -$30/month cost. ;)
bizness 01-28-2004, 04:48 PM e-onlinedata has to be one of the unprofessional company i have ever seen in the merchant account field. We received an email that they were canceling our account and gave a very general reason (email can be seen below). Keep in mind that this is a company that we have been working with for over 2 years now and have processing charge volumes of $5K+ / month. We never did any high charges cause we have our high-end clients pay via check. We also have never even had a charge back. We called their so called risk dept and got the run around… finally we asked for a manager and they sent us back to customer service…. Asked for manager again, didn’t want to forward to manager until they got the story. This went back and forth.. finally they transferred the call to a voicemail… waiting on around 8hours now since the early morning and no call back… called again left a message again… take my advice, never use this company.
“Online Data Corp. has established qualification standards for the continued processing of credit cards. Our Risk Division continuously reviews the products or services being merchandised, as well as the method in which they are sold. Also evaluated are the financial responsibility of the business and the history of the financial responsibility of the principle(s).
Based on our investigation, we are sorry to advise you that your business did not meet the ongoing qualifications, and therefore, will not be eligible for continued processing of credit cards through our system. Your account has been closed effective immediately due to abnormal transaction activity.”

OK so I have to say, my experience is totally different and we do a bit more than 5K a month.
I have been with E-Online data now for a number of years. I left CardMemberServices when I realized I could cut my fee's in half.
I have had 2 small issues and one fairly large one and I have to tell you, my account rep has handled it right away and without issue.
My Personal experience with them has been outstanding...
:wavey:
Gotta go play hockey now...Bye....LOL
Gladhost 02-10-2004, 11:05 PM Hi,
How is the integration to an existing website?
April
jwaldron1973 02-11-2004, 12:09 AM April...the Authorize.net integration is quite easy to any web-site. They have two integration methods AIM and SIM here are links to the integration documents for each of them:
http://www.e-onlinedata.com/merchantaccounts/AIM_guide.pdf
http://www.e-onlinedata.com/merchantaccounts/SIM_guide.pdf
Are you using a billing software? Authorize.net is pre integrated with many of the top billing solutions in the market.
cdgcommerce 02-11-2004, 12:54 AM You can also find more information about Authorize.Net directly on their Web site.
For instance, they have a list of compatible shopping carts at:
http://www.authorizenet.com/alliances/carts.php
You can also find their full list of API's, integration docs and value-added service integration info at:
http://www.authorizenet.com/support/
There are also other gateway options that you can choose from which various pros and cons. But in terms of universal compatibility, Authorize.Net is definitely the most widely integrated on the market today.
