I'm probably going to be needing a dedicated server sometime soon so I decided to find the plans I liked the most in popular dedicated hosts and write 'em down and compare them.

So, this is here for your benefit and mine (give me advice!).

Edit: The specs are Speed, Space, Memory, Bandwith, and Price. :)

Hmm... well, the "customize" button on your site doesn't seem to work. Do you have a link?

no just email me or post what you want.

OK, err... how about...

866MHz
40GB HD (if possible?)
256MB RAM
100GB bandwith

I hear from a lot of people that your support is good - but budget is really a big issue right now so I'm trying to sort of compromise.

well the words budget and 100 gigs of BW don't usually go well together, maybe revise your expectations a little. But I will see what I can.

OK. I'll probably end up going with RackShack - my only problems are its apparent lack of a control panel for client sites and the fact that it's on a RAQ (I'm not sure if this is all that big of a problem but I've heard that it is).

I would recommend VO if you can afford them!

Wow, this is great. I never woulda thought I'd get replies from three companies just by posting. :) You guys rock.

William - I'm currently looking for a server that would work well for a web hosting company which I'm planning (hoping? hehe) to open alongside a webdev/webmaster tools/free webspace/tutorials/etc. sort of site (would that require a different sort of server - maybe an applications server?).

delemtri, would you like this thread move to the Requests Forum so that you could discuss your situation with the hosts you are considering? If so, report any post in this thread and I'll move it ASAP. If not, just ignore this post.

Chicken -

I wasn't really intending to get more quotes from the hosts from this post (I have more than enough already ;)), I was just looking for feedback about them from people. I guess it's sorta switched course a bit though... hrm. You can move it if you'd like. :)

I recommend VenturesOnline, their support is really great.
And you are wrong, setup fee is one monthly fee, not two.

delemtri
08-29-2001, 01:05 PM
Walter - I meant you had to pay double the monthly fee for the first month. ;)

In our case with some provider ( see previous message (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11728) ), even though they wiped our hard drive and destroy everything on the server, they ended up taking the last month fee we paid upfront. Also, those who rqeuire you to send cancellation in writing is probably bad, they are trying to make it hard for you to cancel.
