Worms take flavour out of Cadburys in Uttaranchal
DEHRA DUN, Oct. 9. — After Mumbai, complaints are pouring in about worms in Cadburys products from Uttaranchal as well.
The first worm was detected in Nainital on Tuesday, where a shop owner was prompted to check his stock by the Mumbai incident. He found a tin of Cadburys Celebrations Cashew Magic infested with white worms, which also crept out of another pack. He immediately intimated the local health inspector giving him the batch number of the chocolate boxes as T48R2T2. The health inspector, in turn, apprised the health officials in Doon.
Even as the officials were contemplating action, a doctor in Pauri detected worms in a pack of Cadburys chocolates he brought for his daughter yesterday. He informed the shopkeeper who then intimated his stockist in Ramnagar.
State health minister Mr Tilak Raj Behar has ordered sampling of the chocolates. While speaking to The Statesman, he said he would wait for the test results before taking any action. “Though it may take some time since the testing facility is not available with the state yet, action is going to be swift once we have the results.”
The state health department has already begun the sampling process. Senior health official Dr Arya said the samples would be sent either to Lucknow or Kolkata for testing. For the time being, officials plan to collect samples from those areas where complaints are coming in from. — SNS
