This would be my first go on a reseller business...

We're a good crew...
Two unix persons.
Good php/mysql/perl/cgi knowledge.
One html/designer person.
All very honest and hard working.
We also know some misc other stuff...
Myself is also very good with hardware.

Reliability, Support, Speed and Agressive Pricing will be our top priorities!

We have an offer for bandwidth, very good professional NOC located in Sweden...
I myself plan to visit the NOC in person just to check it out...

This company will be founded in something like 0.5-1.5 years.

We don't intend to rush it...

What I'm wondering is;

Is there a market for just Scandinavia/Europe?
We wont try and outprice all the cheap US hosts.
We'll instead have reasonable prices and try and get customers that don't feel right about having their website many 100 miles away.

Is there a specific brand of 1U servers that's preferable?

How much support does the average user need?
My experience is;
quote a lot the first couple of weeks, and only about ones every month or less afterwards...

How many support people would it be wise to have per client?

How many clients can a 1Ghz Athlon with 256MB RAM easily handle?

What applications handles multiple domains/ips?

Where could I find prices on different webcontrol panels?
Any good GNU licenced ones?

That's all for now...

We'll keep digging/dreaming/planning/thinking....

I advanced, thanks for any kind replies...
;D

Well, I'm from Slovenia and I'v been looking for European based hosts for quite a while now. I'm always on a lookout for new or better resellers/dedicated options for my company.

There is a bunch of companies in England and I guess I haven't researched German speaking markets enough - my German is not good enough to deal with technical aspects of this business...

I'd say that you will have to beat England based companies such as Donhost, Vibus and others, either price or support vise. Bandwidth costs seem awfully expensive in Europe...

Since I don't offer reselling and dedicated offers for my customers, I can't tell you much about the support personell needed or rack equipment... It really depends on your needs. I guess you will offer UNIX based OS but what kind of packages will you offer to your customers? Support you will have to provide really depends on what kind of customers you plan to attract.

My guess is that there is a lot less 15 year olds in Europe that want to establish their own hosting business than in US, so you might sell your resellers packages to a more experienced crowd. Less support pesonell needed. I might be wrong, though :D

Anyway, I think European market is big enough for many more companies, especially if you can offer substantially cheaper bandwidth than current offers in Great Britain.

the--dud, I think you've asked a combination of questions that are too varied to get an answer. For one, I don't think most of the people on the board are familiar with European, specifically Scandinavian market.

Two, you asked about servers, capacity of particular servers, support levels, applications, control panels... all in one post. My suggestion is to split up your questions into specific smaller posts, placed in the correct forums.

Running a Web Hosting Business would be fine for support levels.
Dedicated Servers, for servers and capacities.
Hosting Software for control panel questions, etc.
