We are about to start a long term relationship with Origix.net and wanted to know if anyone colocates servers with them. We would be in their Texas data center on pipes of UUNET and Level3. Anyone have any experience with them? Their prices are out of this world and so far, their phone sales people are great! Let me know if you or anyone you know colocate with them and what you think.

Thanks!
Darren

You should know that going direclty through origix in dallas is prob. not your best bet, we actually partner with origix to utilize their backbone for additional peering since they needed someone to fill up their dallas pop, so we took it over, any how, they dont have a single tech person in dallas at all, just a sales guys, they might try to say they do but trust me they dont. So if you need things like reboots etc your SOL and colo4dallas's staff where they would put you only work normal business hours.

But on a good note their backbone is pretty good....

I spoke with them and they have a support guy on call 24/7 who we get cell phone access to. Anything else you know about them?

Good luck on the support cell phone guy, everytime i ever have called their support number you have to leave a message even during business, try calling that cell phone at 4am in the morning.

How much is a GB of bandwidth with these two companies?

Contact Origix if you need pricing, it wouldn't be ethical to list them. They are great, I recommend them so far.

Well in the past speaking though prices and what not seem very nice.

I really need support on site 24/7 and dont want to rely on someone on call there. I think they lack that and thats a large issue.

I dont want a cell phone number too call, that means that I have to rely on me and my clients finding the issue before they do, this is not good.

In current situations both places have 24/7 on site support. I cant even begin to go into how many times 5 minutes was critical to have the problem resolved. Also the knowledge is also important. So having someone on call and 5 minutes away doesnt work for me and my clients either.

I thought you were looking for opinions of people that actually use them.
Now it sounds like you are in some way partnered with them:confused:

In no way, shape or form do i represent them. Betwen iComputerServices LLC (our company) and Origix.net, the only things that have happened so far are we contacting them for a quote for space in thier colo. I wanted to know how good they are, but so far to us, they are pretty good :)

Just clarify how you can say, "They are great, I recommend them so far."
While admitting you have only talked to a salesman; and while ignoring experiences of people that have first hand knowledge of them (as opposed to relating what a salesman has told them).

I am not arguing any point here :) I just want to know what opinions every one has :)

Let not fight, they have a great network, great sales people, but their support has much to be desired... enough said, dherman can form his own conclusions when hes with him, other than that, theres nothing wrong with him asking for peoples opinions.

In addition colo4dallas has a great facility, and good people working with them, which are on call 24/7.

This should now get very interesting.

Let the fireworks begin.

I see someone loosing a large client, hmm

I've never heard of origix before. And I've never heard of dherman before. I just find this hole thing weird.
A guy comes here wanting advice on someone he claims he doesn't know. Then a couple of posts later; he's recommending them??
I have nothing agaist either one.
It just feels strange.

Hello, I would like to back out of this conversation saying:

"I have never heard of Dherman before"
My name is Darren Herman and I have over 200 posts. I have been around the forums :)

I have chosen not to go with Origix, however, it wasn't for the "WHT" reasons.

Signing off,
Darren Herman
