Hi! We had an outsourcing company develop a new website to promote and sell our online service. The site cost an absoulute fortune and initially we were very happy with it but now having second thoughts - it would be interesting to find out what people think

the url is www.usertracer.com

thanks ever so much

All the best,

Shirley

No offence Shirley, but how could we know if you have been ripped off or not. We have no idea what you consider to be an absolute fortune, nor do we know what was promised or what your expectations of this service were.

Site is nice and clean. I notice there are a few things done in PHP. Now I just looked at it for a 1-2 minutes, so I may not have seen some down and dirty scripting.

It's hard to say whether you got burned or not. Some sites gets overcluttered and bloated with pictures and effects and the like, but your's is clean and easy to navigate.

No idea...

They should at least know how to spell technical for 4G.

Well.. If you got a full backend system.. And a decent design.. I think 4 would be worth it...

Only thing I would change is that I'd want my logo at the top of every page :D

I would of expected better on the design, but maybe they just gave you what you asked for?

I just want to quote something here.

Hi! We had an outsourcing company develop a new website to promote and sell our online service. The site cost an absoulute fortune and initially we were very happy with it

Initially you were very happy with it. That means that they did their job. A "good deal" is in the eye of the person who takes the offer. Say you get something on sale at an electronics store for $1200 and at the time you thought it was a great deal, so you bought it.

Then a week later, you see it advertised for $1000 at another place.

Did the first place rip you off on price? No, they offered a selling price which was within what you were prepared to pay.

In no way do I see where what was done for you site is a rip off.

People have bills to pay and they advertise their services for what they can get for them. If Mom & Pop Shop sell something for $80 while Walmart sells it for $50, are mom and pop trying to rip you off? No, they're just trying to make a living and put food on the table by selling it for what they can afford to sell it for.

Looks like about 4G's to me. There seems to be a good amount of scripting work done on the site. Once you include design, graphics, any content they had to write, database architecture, etc.

Now, I can't say anything about the integrity of the database or the code itself, but it looks fine on the front-end.

I think they did a good job for 4G.

EDIT: The only thing that really seems to be out of place is the logo up-top. Where's the name branding?!?!?! :D

Hi, I'd just like to point out that the product itself was NOT developed by the company we used. Only the actual website.

well if the company you used never developed the actual product nor the php scripts and backend etc

I guess you have paid too much only for the web designs.

Yes, if you only paid for the web design itself and nothing else, then I would say you paid quite a bit more than you needed to.

My personal opinion is that website design is not worth £4,000... sorry to say it.

Yikes, $4k for that design? The html isn't even valid, there's no character encoding, when forced, it still isn't valid html 4. The color logic is poor.

This isn't an offer of services, but I could make a far better design in a couple of days, including coding a proper xhtml/css/508 Bobby layout.

A quality design can easily cost $4k, but (in my opinion), that design is not worth near that figure.
