It looks to me like they did. I can't get on my website, my emails can't find server and I can't get ahold of anyone.

How long has it been since the server has been unreachable? Have you tried doing a WHOIS on your domain to learn more contact info for them?

You can start here: http://www.accesswhois.com/

Its been going on for about 5 days now. I did try the whois and it says they are active (not sure what that means). They give the same contact phone # as I've been trying. Another indication they went out of business is their phone mailbox is full; can't leave a msg.

Hi visual5,

It's sad to hear that. I would start looking for a new host at this point and possibly start considering a chargeback with your credit card company/paypal/etc if you cant reach them for a refund.. in say.. another 5 days or so.

Do you know if there's a way to get the html code from my website? To make things even worse our company hard drive crashed 2 weeks ago and we lost everything. And now that this company is out of business it looks like I probably have to recreate my entire website.

Also do you know if there will be a problem transferring my domain name?

Thanks for your help on this!

Hi visual5,

If you don't have a local backup and the server is down, there is really no way to get your code back unless you've been up for awhile and it may be archived at archive.org.

Depending on where you registered the domain and who the domain admin contact is will determine how easy it would be. If you are the domain admin contact, you can request from the registrar a change in DNS to a new webhost's name servers.

If you're quick you can grab pages from google's cache

I am sorry but the fact that you don't even have a local copy of your HTML files is a bit disturbing... Now if it was a database we'd say sure you forgot to backup your database on a regular basis but how is it that you don't have a backup of your static site? Did you not use your computer to develop it?

What the hell? Have you ever lost a hard drive? Ever had a system go south on you?

I'm sorry you find it so 'disturbing'. Maybe you should see somebody about that.

We used our computer but did not backup before our hard drive crashed. Learn the hard way, I guess.

Hi visual5,

Understandable, unfortunately most people learn the hard way. Always keep a backup of your important files on a floppy or cd-rom also just in case - you never know.
