View Full Version : How long would you tolerate?
Cyberpunk 08-27-2001, 12:33 AM A host who with about 33% or more downtime, after having been down for 10 days.
They have just moved to a new server, had weird trouble getting their dns propogated, they are also having trouble with their mailserver (I get timeouts).
The downtime is currently attributed to the fact that they are implementing features steadily in ensim. Communication with client is poor.
Here is some reading to clarify the situation:
http://beyondhs.community.everyone.net/commun_v3/scripts/directory.pl, go to Directoris Q&A.
Am I getting unfairly annoyed about this or should I be patient? Can some of you experienced hosts give your comments on their explanations.

Why haven't you moved?
First they were reselling DonHost; then they get a server and it's the first server in the NOC?? Is that what I read?
TrevorMac 08-27-2001, 01:28 AM I would not put up with that, even if they claim the worst is behind.
Thats not acceptable, especially if they dont give you an entire month free, because of the trouble.

funkee 08-27-2001, 01:33 AM Our tech flew to our colocation facility and had a long discussion with the tech there because of 1 hour of downtime last month. For Sparklit 10 days would be absolutely devestating. We would drop the company like a hot patato.
Tallon 08-27-2001, 01:36 AM If you're paying for your account I would demand that they not charge you for this month. Most servers have their problems now and then, but 10 days is about 9 days too long. :( You have every right to be annoyed, no one likes downtime.
Cyberpunk 08-27-2001, 07:09 AM So I cant complain too much except on principle.
They are improving slowly.

Cyberpunk 08-27-2001, 03:55 PM Some people here would probably say I did get what I paid for :D
I originally just took the space to park a domain name, but I started a little project using the space that I needed to work on quickly and was more annoyed in principle than anything else.

Where you read thatThat's what I picked up in their forum. "Directoris Q&A" / "All Directoris messages in one thread. . . ."
At least, that was my interpretation. Someone can tell me I read it wrong; but I'm pretty sure that's what I remember.
Dylan 08-27-2001, 11:23 PM :dunce: spot on - at a place called sitegenie :dunce:

See the thread at beyond homestead titled "Directoris or Cyberpunk" .I do not know what is going on here, I cannot work this one out, people are going paranoid over this!
Can you hosts with more experience of these things please shed some light on this situation, I'm just a customer with one account at Directoris. Help me get the truth about what is going on here????
SoftWareRevue 08-28-2001, 06:23 PM I wouldn't pay too much attention.
Nobody will tell you where they're getting the whois information.
I PMd you ;)
Dylan 08-28-2001, 06:33 PM Took 2 years to develop this project
ye right
Cyberpunk 08-28-2001, 06:35 PM Got it, replied.
I suspect its trolling.
SoftWareRevue 08-28-2001, 06:44 PM That'd be my guess. :D
OT:I need a spell checker; so I can cut down on my editing!! :bawling: :bawling:
Cyberpunk 09-04-2001, 11:13 PM We'll, just thought I should post to say everythings good now.
My domain is working again perfectly and all the teething troubles with the new server are ironed out now. Uptime is good again and the account features are greatly improved with the new server set up, also, the new set up is much faster than the old one, with a much better control panel now I'm used to it!
Now that the chaos of moving everyone over is now past their email support and response times have vastly improved as well.
Happy again :D
Cyberpunk - are you still happy? Even without SMTP working for at least a day?
What do you say to customers when the email they send to you bounces? First thing they think is you took their money and ran.
Cyberpunk 10-06-2001, 12:33 AM Works fine for me, I just tested it after reading this, there was a short interruption but I gather that was an ensim/sendmail issue as far as I know. They only have one server so when sendmail etc. screws up its going to cause rubber emails. There are a couple of backup contact emails that were put about by Directoris that are not @theirdomain.com, if you dont know them I'll pass them on.
