The one thing that sets AvidNews apart from other news and article management systems, is the fact that AvidNews gives you complete control over the layout of both your full article pages, as well as your headlines.

Many webmasters, like yourself, would simply like a news application that doesn't force the same layout on your site, as they do on countless other websites, leaving thousands of websites looking the same.

AvidNews is not a blogging system. It is an actual complete news and article management solution, that allows you to choose the way your news and articles look.

Feature List
AvidNews' feature list below, will show you exactly why we're different.

Complete Template System
Make your articles and headlines look the way you want! Make them fit your existing site perfectly.

Seperate Admin and Writer Control Panels
Keep your writers seperate from your administrators. Adminitrators have the tools and abilities to approve, edit, delete, and update artiles, as well as update news templates, and user management, leaving writers to do what they do best....write! Writers also have the ability to edit and delete articles, but only their own.

Live and Unapproved Articles
When writers submit their articles, they automatically go into an
"unapproved" status, until an admin approves the article. This give the administrators the ability to monitor, and edit what goes on their live pages, without taking any chances.

Multi-Page Article Support
Sometimes writers have a lot to write about, but writing all about it on one page, can look very cluttered, and unprofessional. AvidNews supports multi-paging within articles. The writer will only need to enter a special tag, and the article will automatically continue on another page, placing "Back" and "Next" links at the bottom of each page.

Multiple Categories
With AvidNews you can break your articles up into seperate categories of news, or information. This means you can keep your main news headlines seperate from your advice column, or whatever categories you want! You can add and delete categories at will.

Article Image Support
At times, articles just need that special image, to get the point across. No worries! AvidNews supports image uploading, and will place the image in the article, wherever you tell it to, when you place a special tag in your templates.

Print This Article
Using a few special tags in your Article templates will allow you to provide your readers with the ability to view and print a print only version of your article. Print only versions, will strip out the images, leaving your readers with a clean, basic version to print. You can also designate which portions of the article you would like to be printable!

Email This Article
Very similar to the Print This Article feature, you can use a special tag, which will place a link in your articles, allowing your readers to send a link to your article, to their friends.

Writer Profiles
By using a special tag in your article template, you can provide a link, to allow readers to find out a little more about the writer of a particular article. The writer can include as much or as little information as they want. The Profile includes; Name, short Bio, Personal Photo, and website URL. The administrator also has a template system to control how the profiles pages look!

User Management
Control your writers, and other admins, in one simple area. You can add, delete, change passwords, edit information, and choose to give them either writer, or administration rights.

Code Generation
Ready to put your headlines on your pages? Well AvidNews' "Get Code" feature allows you to choose which category of headlines, and even how many headlines you want to display for that category. It will then give you the code that you need to include in your external PHP page, in order to display the chosen headlines.

Hi Renee,

Currently AvidNews created articles are extremely search engine friendly. The solution we found best suited for search engines was to place the headline in the title of your template, and the blurb/description in the meta-tag description. This has all been tested during production, and works perfectly.

As for an Addon to discuss articles in forums. While this sounds like a great feature, it is simply quite a headache, due to the multitude of Forum software available, it would be extremely difficult to intergrate AvidNews into all of them.

Commenting System....
This is scheduled for 1.2 and has already been developed. We have chosen not to update AvidNews with too many minor updates, so that we can update the application with multiple addons rather than one at a time. This is why the commenting system has not been added at this time. The commenting system will give ability to the writer or admin to turn commenting on or off per article.

Also, some FYI, 1.2 - 1.5 will include a multitude of new features including Flash integration, better admin/writer GUI, a new writer profile system, and a XML/RSS feed generator to enable the sharing of your headlines (already possible with the javascript generated code too)

Edit: Keep in mind that with the purchase of AvidNews you get free upgrades as well.

Hi there

It looked to me like the urls had "?"'s

It is my experience that this doesn't go over very well with most search engines.

With ubbthreds for instance..when you use the apache feature and modify it to use regular urls...more than 20 times the number of pages get indexed

I know Article Manager

and evo dev both take advantage of this.

Actually, from what we have found is that Google, and other search engines, have realized that "?" are used for dynamic content, more and more as time goes on.

Their initial theory for the issues involved with this was that URL's that use "?" are usually affiliate links, which they don't like to index. They're now beginning to realize that this isn't the case.

When tested, we placed one page with approximately 50 headlines on it. Submitted it to Google, AltaVista, Lycos, and of course Atomz (for site search compatability). All 50 headlines, and articles were indexed within 2-3 months time, and Atomz, of course, indexed them immediately.

While I understand your concern, believe me we were just as concerned about it, before releasing the software. That is in fact why these indexing tests were performed.
