View Full Version : desperately seeking a new host
mogga 10-07-2003, 05:00 PM I'm with fasthosts - yes I know. Before anyone says anything I know!
I like their control panel - its really easy to use - and I like ukreg.
I've just had a dabble with affordablehost but found it all a bit confusing.
I've moved a couple to oneandone.co.uk and think that its much faster and I could probably live with the control panel - what do people think of them? (Although I don't like having to move ISPTAG thing)
I'm not technically brilliant - so any control system has to be mogga-proof.
I would like php and cgi and ideally to be able to CHMOD files rather than that SSH nonsense although I'm sure thats not vital.
I have about 70 domains but am not high bandwidth.
Someone's suggested a dedicated server but I don't think I could manage one myself and suspect I'd faint at the price of a managed one if I wasn't put off by all the techie speak.
I want something easy to use and reliable. I ave looked at rackspace which actually has a service level agreement - does anywhere else?
All thoughts and opinions welcome
Thanks
Reality Hosting 10-07-2003, 05:08 PM A small reseller would probably do you fine. Maybe with httpme.com or clook.net.
nmluan 10-07-2003, 05:09 PM I would recommend hostrocket.com. Been with them for about a year before I move out on my own.

ezbnc 10-07-2003, 05:17 PM Ya a small reseller should do you fine no reason for a dedicated as it only cost more. You can try the following both very good and nice company's
http://www.fastezhosting.com
http://www.dsdhosting.com
NethrBen 10-07-2003, 05:33 PM Most hosting companies have pretty powerful control panels on their dedicated servers which are easy to use for the less technically inclined.
I would take a look at the demos of Ensim, Hostingcontroller, and C-panel.
We've been considering selling our control panel, so if you were willing to work with us in terms of beta testing a distribution version, we could work with you on functionality and simplicity.
You might want to also look into VDS, since many VDS hosts allow many domains per plan.
(not sure about the control panel aspect though)
Thanks,
Ben
Paul-UKWSD 10-07-2003, 05:34 PM Hi mogga,
Looking at the list of hosts you have used already I assume you are looking for UK companies, try looking at the UK hosting directory http://findyourhost.co.uk
mogga 10-07-2003, 05:51 PM What is an "Addon domains"

It means you can add on domains to your account through your control panel or by contacting the host.
martianwax 10-08-2003, 10:44 AM For a small reseller account I would also suggest tekadvantage.com. Just buy a package and split it up as necessary using your web host manager.

doesn't work.
Matt4000 10-08-2003, 07:32 PM try this.. http://www.tekadvantage.com/resellers.php
Chaos28k 10-08-2003, 08:32 PM I'd reccomend http://designalpha.com.
Never had a bad experience, except for one, but the support was great and they overcompensated me for the mistake, if that's possible.
Great service, great support.
Mark_TVI 10-08-2003, 08:50 PM Take a look at ServInt (http://www.servint.com/vps) and look at their VPS offering. They have great tech support and you can run your domains through a pretty easy to use control panel. VPS is like having a small managed, dedicated server of your own at a fraction of the cost.

I let Eric at Tekad know about the bad link.
I hope you were able to get the page from matt's link and see their packages.
Matt, I have seen you on the tekad boards. I never checked out your site before. It looks pretty cool.
Esr Tek 10-08-2003, 11:24 PM All fixed - thanks Matt for pointing to correct page :D
Matt4000 10-09-2003, 03:57 PM no problem Eric ;)
