I'm about to get my 1st real paid host. I already had one but I'll not talk about them. It was my 1st experience and I signed with a crappy host. When I realised it I canceled my account so they closed my account but have billed me for 4 extra months. So this time I'll get some advices before doing anything. I've search trough the board and have found 2 host that looks very good to me. Anyone could help me I can't chose between hostroket (http://hostrocket.com/v2/) or Aletia (http://www.aletiahosting.com/)
Whatever the host I'll sign with I'll take the basic plan so consider this one
Thanks for the help!

Well do a search in the forums here for both Hosts.Read thru and see what people have to say about em. I know Ive heard only good things about Aletia.
Also e-mail em with questions you may have about their service. Its a good way to get a feel for the kind of people they are etc... I know my current host (get-hosted.com SHAMELESS PLUG) has delt with many questions and has always been friendly and quick to respond.
Ive been with a bunch of really bad hosts in the last year or so.I was very gunshy about finding yet another host to try.Tho with some research and alot of aggravating questions I found a host that has worked out well for me and the sites I run.

Well, Hostrocket gives you a bit more disk space and bandwidth but on all other counts I'd go for Aletia...
Cheaper
Your own IP
Free domain parking
3 free multi-hosted domains
Mailing lists (explicitly stated for Aletia)
Reputation in this forum
etc.

What's the advantage of having your own IP address?

The only 2 reasons that are necessary is for anonymous ftp and your own SSL certificate.

I know Hostrocket offers it for an extra $2/month if someone does require it for their economy account. I think their higher end accounts come with it...

I reccomend Aleita, they seem to have alot of positive reviews on this board, especially from Dogma :D
