Hey folks.

This sounds weird, but I ran a Pokemon website (Poke-Gym.com). Gah! But, it actually did pretty good. It's in its 3rd year now (Yes, I used to be obsessed) and it’s getting about 2,000 unique visitors every day and about 18,000 pageviews a day. Call me crazy for selling it, or call me a moron for starting it. I don’t know. But the main thing is, is that I want to sell the site. I’m not sure how to do this though. Here are some questions and comments I have about it.

A) Where can I sell it. I’m looking for a starting price of about 1,000$. I would be happy to sell it at $2,500 or above though. Am I crazy? Is this too much? Or too little...
B) Do I sell the content with the site? Sell it as is?
C) Am I crazy to put this price tag on it? What can I expect?
D) Anyone want to buy it? :-P

Err, just a little inside on that.

Christmas 1999 I sold over 10,000$ worth of stuff from KBToys affiliate programs, but got only like 5% of that. (This was only one month)

Christmas 2000 I sold about 2000$ worth of stuff

For banners, in 1999 I made about 300$/month.
Note that this is when the economy was good :P.

For banners in 2000 I made about 150$/month
Note that the economy was getting bad(er)

For banners in 2001 (now) I am making about 100$/month

Thanks a lot. I know this is not really normal. All I need to really know is where is a good place to place an ad and I think I need a quote...

Is that really the best way of doing things like this?

There are a few other site that will let you sell websites, I forgot the URLs. But I am sure some of members will mention the URL. Just for your information, unless your site is as busy as Eva2000s, it will be hard to sell for price you want, especially for an anime site.

(No offense, eva2000. )

Hi,

To be honest I think you may hit one or two potential hiccups with this lot...

First off ask yourself this:
1. who would want to buy a pokemon web site?
OR
2. who would be willing to take over running such a site?

The first question is a heck of a lot harder than the 2nd. Chances are you'd need another pokemon fan? nut? :D

When you've factored in just the costs of maintaining the site..
ie: Time, bandwidth, server hosting, etc... Chances are the "income" sides aren't likely to look quite so appealing.

If you can figure out who might want the site, what they'd want it for and how they could benefit from it then you can put together a sales pitch and go from there...

I know it doesn't answer your questions all that well but perhaps one way to approach it is from the opposite viewpoint, i.e as a potential buyer... Would you buy it? How much for?

Hope that's given you food for thought if nought else... All the best
:)
