How long is a domain on hold for?
I purchase a domain with ukreg.com a couple of years back and decided to let it go. But after some thought now I'm going to develop it. It expired on the 9th September. I did a whois check and its status is "on-hold"

Hi Leigh,
If it's a .com or .net, it supposed to go like this: http://snapnames.com/deleteprocess.html
But the individual registrars are very different about how long they hold the name "On-Hold" hoping that you will just renew it. NetworkSolutions, for example, often holds some names for a year in the "On-Hold" period, hoping that the current registrant will pay their ridiculous $35.00 a year fee. If it goes into the Redemption Period, then you have to pay a penalty of up to $200.00 to get your domain back or wait until it ultimately gets deleted and released (assuming no one else wants it).
I would suggest you contact your registrar immediately and try to see how much they want to bring it up to date before it goes into the Redemption Period. Of course, if it's not a .com or .net, then different rules apply according to the individual registry.
BTW, what's up with your website? I've seen it go from so-so (when you first came online) to fantastic to now just a support form? Did you hit the lotto and are retiring? ;)
