View Full Version : hostiva good or bad?
sweethorizons 08-25-2001, 06:23 AM I was thinking about launching another site and using hostiva. I was wondering what some of your user experices are and if I should stay away from them. They seem to have really good prices and I could really afford to use them. Is there email down alot though? I have that problem with hostrocket the email servers are down alot. Also do they have alot of down time?
heat23 08-25-2001, 10:10 AM so far so good
SoftWareRevue 08-25-2001, 10:17 AM Worth the price you pay :agree:
dgessler 08-25-2001, 10:29 PM My site is hosted with them and I've had no problems
SoftWareRevue 08-26-2001, 12:26 AM Well, now that I read your original post better, let me answer like this. . . . . .
1) Good.
2) Email is not down a lot.
3) Not a lot of downtime.

How's the speed? fast?
Any complaints?
SoftWareRevue 08-26-2001, 01:35 AM No complaints.
If I sound kind of vague with my answers, it's only because I don't have a resource intensive site with them.
But, all in all, I have absoutely no complaints.
Support response is prompt and courteous.
brookie 08-26-2001, 07:56 AM Their site looks a bit odd at the moment...

HighSky 08-27-2001, 01:50 AM Hostiva is changing server... email i recieved
Hostiva.com has placed our servers and trust into a certain data center that is failing to live up to its promises. Latest example of their failure to provide us and our customers with a sufficient level of support was during server outage of last night.
Therefore, we would like to ask all of our customers to move their accounts to a new server that we have setup at the new data center. That move will offer MUCH greater reliability and uptime, as well as more advanced control panel. While accounts on the old server will not be deleted, we will no longer able to provide support for accounts remaining on old server with exception listed below.
... blah blah blah
Hope that the new server is better then the old one.
Have a nice day Pple
Keep up the good work Hostiva
:stickout
MilkMan 08-27-2001, 11:40 AM Hmm...no wonder one of my sites has been down this weekend and again right now, going on 33 minutes.
HighSky: When did you get that message?
cactus 08-27-2001, 02:01 PM Yup, as a reseller, I received the same email message yesterday. Not sure about their regular hosting clients whether they also received the same email.

cyberfunk 08-27-2001, 05:23 PM I have no idea what's going on with Hostiva right now.
Some of the options on the new server are buggy.
For example, I Signed up for the plan with 15 gigs of BW and 300 mb and on the new server it shows that I have 10 gigs of BW and 100 mb, THEN it say's that my HTTP traffic is capped at 1 gig.
I really do hope this gets fixed soon.
Anyone else have any problems?
SoftWareRevue 08-27-2001, 05:35 PM No. I don't have the same plan as you; but I have what I had before the move:stickout
I'd give them a few more days to catch up and then ask them about it.
sweethorizons 08-28-2001, 12:06 AM I decide to go with what I know best hostrocket. I signed up for there monthly plan because I know they change thre diskspace alot and I don't want to be locked in. Hostiva seemed to good to be true!
ebird 08-28-2001, 01:40 AM The sign up page is broken. Even withe the backup page, the CC processor instabill was out of business.
Sad news: currently, they didn't offer the cheapest package (about $6/year)... :bawling:

Apache/1.3.19 Server at mail.hostiva.com Port 80
also dunno why turn to mail.hostiva.com.........
getting restless where is my support!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SoftWareRevue 08-28-2001, 01:20 PM HighSky,
Did you receive the "Hostiva.com server move" letter from Dave?
pmhaney 08-28-2001, 10:03 PM I have been also experiencing some weird things with the move to the new server as well as some weird things on the old server. The new control panel is fully working, and I recently can't access my sites using my IP.
I generally don't have anything bad to say about Hostiva, David is doing a fine job. He usually responds to support calls prety quick.
Has anyone had any problems using Frontpage on the old server? I get a weird error message saying that it can't access my Frontpage files? I used to be able to use FP, and I am sure the FP extensions are on.
I think Hostiva is a good deal, just give them a few days to work out all the bugs.
HighSky 08-29-2001, 01:05 AM still getting error can't add email now showing me don have permission to enter why i view my site giving me a domain that not mine "mail.hostiva.com"
dunno what went wrong
think have to wait until they solve all prolem the go my traffic:(
So, better you/we stayed on old server?
I think they isn't ready yet with the new one...
btw, currently they're using Dialtoneinternet. CMIIW...
