Propay.com, hostiva.com and site5.com

They have same logos (almost the same). Same owner too?

Doubt any of them are same owners. While propay and hostiva's are nearly identical, and site5 has a similar look, the logo may include the name (which would make only a part of the logo similar).

I've seen the two swirl thing many times. I'm sure you could find hundreds of companies that have a similar sphere type logo element as well. Have you ever looked through those public domain graphic logo books? Your local printer may have some. I was surprised at what was in the public domain.

I think many logos are merely slight modifications to those (add drop shadow, etc.). If they aren't slight modifications, then there are over 1,000 variations of spheres and many of them look extremely close (if not exactly) like ones we've all seen.

It must be difficult to come up with a unique shape thingie these days. Interesting find though.

Not same owner, but maybe the same designer :)

Here's a good article about it (one of probably 10 different times I've read about it, articles about swooshes are nearly as common as swoosh logos themselves)

And a whole website, Swoosh No More (not even being updated any more, too many swooshes these days to even bother with it)

yes, the swoosh (Nike's logo) has become infamous because of the overuse of the parabolic shape manipulated and distorted to look differently.

if you think about it, it really makes sense with Nike... with the swoosh, they are trying to represent the swiftness of their products (especially their shoes - trying to symbolize wind while running etc).

but the use of the distorted parabolic object has become overrated... honestly, I even fell into that loop once or twice. It's a cool shape really, but too many people use it for purposes in which I don't understand.

im criticizing the swoosh, yet if you look at the header that I made for WHT, you might say that I used yet another overused item on the net: the ring ... but that header was originally created for WebHostLink :) and if you can see... those rings link together in the center. I was trying to show the linking up of different opinions and etc - which is what WHL and WHT is all about :)

umm... wow, how'd i get into that? lol
