View Full Version : Am i getting my moneys worth?
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 08:15 PM Tell me, if this was offered to you, would you buy it?
1.50/m for
50 MB webspace
1 GB bandwidth/m
PHP
MYSQL
Cpanel
Subdomain if domain not provided.
I don't know, would u buy that?
I think that is like, the best starters package. Should i get it?
VH-Robert 10-01-2003, 08:29 PM Yes. Very simple starter plan.
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 08:30 PM Thanx, i thought that was a good deal. But i'd like a few more comments.
eddy2099 10-01-2003, 08:33 PM Kindda cheap. Wonder how makes money from that plan. Check their support and see how responsive and helpful they are.
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 08:35 PM It's actually a freind of mine's. He has got a server, and selling hosting to me. He hopes to make out a buisness soon with it.
Apparently he pays a considerably low amount for his servers, so he can afford to make money.
SROHost 10-01-2003, 08:36 PM I'm sure you'll get your $1.50 worth. The question should probably be: exactly what do you think $1.50 is worth?
- A cup of coffee and half a donut.
- A six pack of small tomatos.
- A head of red cabbage.
- One large mango.
- A month of reliable hosting and tech support  ?
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 08:40 PM Fact is, it's cheap, and it's for beginner users, who just wanna make a website for themselves. That what shawn says anyways. Tech support comes with it, but responce time will vary.
Fact is, you shouldn't really be complaining if it's 1.50 eh?
eddy2099 10-01-2003, 08:47 PM If it is personal and since you know the owner, I guess it is alright. Probably he is just covering part of the cost of the server.
True, you probably have nothing to complain about. Basically what I am saying is that you are getting your money's worth many times over.
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 08:49 PM Yes, he is going to sell about 20-30 plans at this price, if he can get enough users!
2Grumpy 10-01-2003, 09:59 PM 30 x $1.5 assuming he's paid by cash/check.
Add paypal into the mix and it's (from memory) .39 + 3.9% per transaction making it 30 X $1.05 per month or if it's 2checkout .45 + 5.5% making it 30 X $.98 per month per account.

But at the same time, not offering much. I think it's a good deal.
Senad 10-01-2003, 10:20 PM If he does this monthly then I really don't see how he can afford to do this. If you pay yearly then he can go somewhere along with his hosting. A dollar a day cannot provide a great hosting network and top notch support IMO. If he doesn't provide any support then that is a different story for that price ;).

True but he is going at a dollar fifty a month or 5cents a day hosting with support.
H-U.net 10-01-2003, 10:30 PM Fact is, you shouldn't really be complaining if it's 1.50 eh?
Why even bother asking then?
Just get on with it - you're obviously not bothered about the integrity of your site if you're even contemplating $1.50 per month.
Good luck :)

mikelc2 10-01-2003, 10:44 PM thx. I am goign to make a buisness with imthen. And what will happen, is we will charge 4 months at a time.
Then, offer 48 hour support.
All in all for what your getting that's a good deal i'd imagine.
eddy2099 10-01-2003, 11:12 PM True, if it is personal site and uptime isn't all that crucial, it would be okay. 48 hours support do you mean they would take up to two days to respond to your queries or request for assistance ?
When we mentioned 24 hours support, we typically mean 24/7 support meaning that you can get support any time of the day and that they will monitor the server to ensure its uptime.
Let us know how your experience goes after a month or two hosting with them.
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 11:36 PM Yep, that's what i mean :) up to 2 days... which should be fine, for the amount that they will be paying. But i am going to need some customers. Know of anyone who would be interested in this, i know there are a buncha people who would want this.
2Grumpy 10-01-2003, 11:44 PM See here's the problem, your plan sounds ok, quarterly or longer payments and the allocations you're talking about can be done, however here's there the problem comes in, you're gonna be competing with all the other lowball hosts who promise the WORLD for that $.79 per month (or whatever) and they're gonna promise 15 minute response times, 99.9999% uptime and other idiocies you can't do for a buck a month. And people are gonna see those other hosts and see your 48 hour response time and go "hmm" and signup with the other guy.
mikelc2 10-01-2003, 11:47 PM well thing is, this is all for beginners.
Were not gonna offer anything super special. Thing about that is fact, most of those people are BSing you, their not going to make any money off of that. I'm not going to be making money off of this either, i'll most liely be losing money. I'm just doing this to provide a service to very beginner users!
eddy2099 10-02-2003, 12:36 AM Web beginners are probably the ones who would require the highest level of support and may just email you day and night because they cannot do this and that. From what I see is that beginners are people who insist the world wanting support yesterday.
In the end, it might be more trouble than its worth. It might be cheaper to just get the whole machine to yourself.
Or provide free hosting but charge each time someone asks a question.. I know this will not work but if it did you be better off.
