View Full Version : nameserver problems...

I have registered 2 name servers 4 days ago.

Should I be able to ping them even if they are not correctly set up on the server?

The namservers themselves get pulled when I do a search for them on internic, but when I do a search for them (host ns1.domain.com) on NetSol, nothing comes up.

This just ads to the confusion... Is the registration of the nameserver simply taking a long time to propogate or something?

Im stuck between a rock and hard place, I dont know if the nameservers are registered, and I dont know if I configured the nameservers correctly, so its hard for me to troubleshoot.

Is there a way I can eliminate one of the possibilities?(I need to wait for the nameservers, or should I check configurations on the servers themselves).

Any thoughts?

The best way is to change one of your domains to point at that nameserver, and then do a whois for that domain.

well that still leaves me in a "bind"..

are you suggesting just to try and use the nameserver as a nameserver for another domain?

I suppose you are suggesting that if it allows me to use the nameserver than it means that the nameserver is properly registered?

If thats true, than this means I can simply work on the configuration on the actual server itself?

Please lay it out a little clearer for me, 3 consecutive days with ~5 hours of sleep is killing me, suppose I will get used to it

did you register the hosts at Net Sol? You will find that if say your domain is an OpenSRS domain and you add the name servers in there panel that you will also have to register them at Net Sol

If you have done this - well just ignore the above and register them again at Net Sol because it should take just 24 hours

Go to http://www.crsnic.net/ enter your nameserver as ns1.yourdomain.com Click the nameserver button. Search should tell you if it's propagated.

the name servers having propagated and coming up as valid when you type

host ns1.domain.dom at Net Sol

are 2 different things - they will only show on a host search at Net Sol if they are registered Net Sol host names.

2 years ago we had one of many war of words with Net Sol because our name servers are opensrs and they wouldn't allow Net Sol domains to point at them unless we also registered them at net Sol... etc etc

Ok, from looking at things I think I have not set up my nameservers correctly...
