I was wondering...

With all of these individuals and companies offering dedicated server hosting, where do the smaller comapnies actually house the servers they host? They couldn't all own their own data centers. So are they being colocated within a colocation facility somewhere?

I'm looking into offering colocation discounts to dedicated server hosts that would like to house their customers servers in our data center.

I'm not advertising for this type of service, I'm just interested in more information about the subject.

If you are a smaller dedicated server host that does not own your own data center, I would interested in finding out more information about how and where you locate your servers and what kind services you find to be beneficial.

Thanks in advance.

There are tons of facility out there that would host Customer servers. Basically, there is 2 typle.

1) Carrier Neutral facility: Equinix, switch and data, eXchange colo, Market Post Tower to be a few.

2) Carrier facility: Level3, MFN, Internap, NAC, HE.net

Basically, they could be everywhere. This probably can't be a niche for you to make money to house a smaller company.

I would be attracted to your facility if you have killer bw at killer price, then killer space at killer price. Also, free remote hands is a big plus too.

Thanks for the response.

Thats basically what I am trying to figure out. I looking at it in a similar way as Reseller WebHosting Accounts, which offer a more disk space and bandwidth than standard hosting accounts. I would offer the dedicated host a larger amount of rackspace and bandwdith specifically targetted for dedicated server hosts.

I like the idea of free remote hands. I already offer free remote reboots, but free remote hands could be abused. Maybe limiting free remote hands to a couple of hours per month would be the way to go.

I'm simply looking for a way to target those individuals and companies that require colocation services, since colocation is my primary business.

If there are any other ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks again.
