Holy cow. Just got my DirecTivo unit last week and now I'm hooked on it like crack cocaine. Greatest. Invention. Ever.

Umm, okay, sounds like you need to go out for a bit if Tivo gets you off that much :D

I'm partial to our ReplayTVs.... the ONLY problem I've had so far is the fact that I'm totally clueless when someone starts discussing "the latest and greatest" commercial... Commercial??? What's a commercial????

I have friends who are all gaa-gaa over Tivo and I never really understood why. Until now I have one. You can have my Tivo when you can pry it from my cold, dead hands!

I should get a Tivo. :) Cause, I'm really getting tired of missing all my favorite tv shows.

Do it now JTY! Hehe, it took my wife 6 months of convincing me, but once I took the plunge, I was hooked. I highly recommend it. The "season pass" option is just plain cool.

I know someone who said: "I'd get a Tivo, but I don't have much time to watch TV." I'm exactly the same, which is PRECISELY why Tivo is so great. When I do have the time/desire to watch TV, I can watch EXACTLY what I want to watch, not whatever happens to be on at 1:47 AM on Wednesday morning.

Tivo ROCKS.

Hmm... I'll need to find out how much DirecTV will charge me to upgrade.

Although, I could probably pay for it easily, if I just sold the other two satellite receivers I have.

JTY:

I got mine for free by threatening to cancel my service, but you can get the upgrade to DirecTivo for $99 without threatening, I believe, if you sign up through this page:

I don't think I've ever met someone who has TiVo who doesn't like it.

TiVo rocks!

DirecTivo is awesome, as is ReplayTV.

I own an original ReplayTV which I bought from the now defunct Mercata.com about 3 years ago during the gravy train days of 2000. What I love is the fact that my ReplayTV has no monthly fees and no lifetime fees, no fees at all. Of course if/when ReplayTV goes bankrupt I will be singing another tune.

I hope you didn't pay more than $99 (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=199512) for your DirecTivo.

Hoob:

- Tivo records to a hard drive.
- It has two tuners, which means you can actually do THREE things at once: record from two different channels, and watch a pre-recorded show.
- If there's a show you like, you tell Tivo and set up a season pass. It will then record the show any time on any channel it appears. You don't have to know when it's on, Tivo finds it for you. Better yet, it won't record the show if it's already recorded that particular episode (unless you tell it to). For instance, we love "Trading Spaces" and a show called "Bargain Hunt". "BH" is particularly hard to find because it airs during the day a lot while I'm at work. Tivo showed me every channel it appears on just by putting the name of the show in. I told Tivo to record it on all channels it appears, and Tivo records them all for us.
- Tivo saves your shows and purges them automatically when you run out of space on the HD.
- Tivo knows what kind of shows you like, and then automatically (if you want) records it's own "suggestions" as well. A friend at work, a car buff, found new car enthusiast shows on networks he didn't even watch (for example, on the Fine Living Network).
- You can pause and rewind live TV.
- It has an 8-second instant replay button. Watching a game and want to see that TD reception again? Hit instant replay and BOOM, you got it.
- You can watch a program WHILE it's being recorded. For instance, my Bucs were playing the Falcons at 1:00 EST, but I also wanted to hang my new coach lights on the front of the garage. No problem: I hit "record" just before 1:00 and went outside. I came back in around 2:00 and started watching the Bucs kick the living crap out of the Falcons. Plus, since I was recording, I could SKIP ALL THE COMMERCIALS and also SKIP HALFTIME. With about 5:00 left in the 3rd quarter I caught up to the live broadcast, and then Tivo went "live" from that point forward.

There's more, but those are some of the best features.

I've heard of Tivo long ago, never had the chance to learn more about it, sounds fantastic. WOW

(How many shows can you record, around? How many minutes, etc)
