I have searched quite a bit and could not come up with what I was looking for.

1. Does anyone know any lists which rank web hosts. Something like dslreports.com for webhosts.

2. Or can anyone recommend a host which is cheap, supports ASP/ODBC and with a tech support department which actually emails people back? I have already emailed half a dozen hosts to "test" their responsiveness and nary a reply. This was 2 days ago.

Thank you
doshin

Aloha
there are a few places that list hosts but there is ome thought to the fact that this will depend on advertising with them etc... most all are biased
boards are your best bet for info
also doing what you are doing email them see how they respond this would be a good way to scratch some names from the list
I would say go in to the web hosting requests
then make notes of waht your offers are and then do a seearch on the hosts that you get offers from the boards should turn up the good and bad of each
one thing
try to spell out what you need as much as you can it will help you get a good offer.

did some looking into http://www.webhostmagazine.com after findsp (lonny) brought it up seems to be a good resource for finding hosts that seem to do a good job at rating hosts would be a good place to start I was not familiar with this until now
ya learn something every day ;)
maybe on eof the few that are not biased to advertising glad to find stuff like this out there ;)

later this adl blurb was my edit

There are such lists. I'm just about to go through a bunch of them, but before I get a chance to do that, a member will most likely beat me to it and post a list of them for you to look at. We have members here who have sites of this nature (note: not an invite to post your URL you guys! :D)

I'll try to copy them to notepad as I cruise the forum and come back to post some later...

This one is reliable, and doesn't depend on advertising - the review are not related to advertisers. :)

Sorry chicken.

surely you must be just kidding when you say webhostmagazine reviews, do not depend on advertising.
did the web surfer or visitors to that site vote for these companies in some form of poll?
if not, then there is room for bias.
i didnt look through the whole site, so perhaps there is an unbiased section which i failed to find.

it says:

this company was not an advertiser at the time that this review was written.

Look, you can't be completely objective.. But those companies are not paying money to get good reviews...

Thank you for all the replys. Webhostmagazine.com looks like a good start, I am on the site now.

And Chicken, if you can post your list, it would be greatly appreciated.

WebStrike Solutions is someone who I was using and who I am still using to run my website.

They provide me with Unix and Win2k hosting (ASP/OBDC) for around $6.00/month.

Tech support is awsome.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's more like top 10 advertisers - the guys who are paying them more, not that provide a better service :)

FWIW, this was over a year ago, a generally astute friend wound up using ***** on the basis of one of these rating page recommendations. 'Nuff said.
