I've been looking for a good paid host for awhile now, and I came across this site: http://ace-host.net . They have a special offer...1000 MB Disk Space, 50 GB Bandwidth, for $2.99/mo, with a one-time setup fee of $10. Does it sound too good to be true? Or does it just sound like a good deal?? If anyone has a friend/acquaintance who has been with them and come out alright, please let me know

Also, I need help thinking of a domain name...I want it to be a .com, something with cute, or animals, or something...I'm going to have a blinkie maker, adoptables, backgrounds, etc. Thanks for any inspiration you might be able to provide!

note that it's only $2.99 if you pay for a year upfront.

I have a domain name for you.

Why you would start a poll about this I don't know but it smells of canned meat to me.

Yes I saw that...that's what I would do, as I'm planning on keeping it for at least a year. :D
Do you mean that with the setup fee, and the fact that you have to pay for the whole year at once, it may not be a scam??

It seems I'd be allowed to start a poll about nearly anything I want, thank you very much.

I think what hes getting at as it sound a bit spammish. Now you could just be a new person starting out and if so welcome. However there have been many many occasions when a newbie is posting about hostingcompany.com and actually works for them

ok, firstly i don't want to crush your hopes of having a sucessfull website, but for a new site, do you have any idea how much 50GB of data transfer is? it's alot of transfer for one site, and i would say probally ten times the amount you'll need for the type of site you describe, even with mabye 1000 visitors a day.

ace-host have been mentioned a few times in similar threads to this, and to be fair i've not seen any really bad posts about them from customers, if you do a search i'm sure you'll see the threads, but for what they are charging for a year, many hosts would charge for a month for 50GB of transfer.

Now they don't do that because they are ripping you off, they do that because it costs money to pay for staff, tech support, software and many other things.

I realize this, I was truly searching for smaller, but when I came across this, for only $2.99, I figured extra couldn't hurt, right? I'm not going to sign up yet though...that's for sure.

I did a search, I found a few about acehost.com, which I'm sure is totally different, but only two on ace-host.net. The one did not say anything bad or good about it...the other sounded really bad, though it was a bit hard to follow. Apparently someone wanted to "test-drive" Ace-host, to make sure they wouldn't back out on him once he paid, and they let him, but then wanted him to pay (obviously) or something. It sounds pretty bad though, from what everyone was saying there. Here's a link (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=132943&highlight=acehost), in case you can help me figure it out at all ;D

And you also said that the yearly fee is what others would charge monthly? Eep... sounds bad.

Hi starrysky,

Basically I think what they are getting at is if you pay for a $2.99/month host who only provides you with say 5GB/month and 100mbytes, you'd probably be equally as well off, plus, your chances of being on an oversold server are much less.

I'm not one to scream oversell! oversell! however this to me, does look a bit scamful.

Thank you very very much!!
And if I need more I can get more...*nodnod* Once I'm famous *giggle*
*dumps ace-host down the drain*

Let's see....

$2.99 / 50 = 0.0598

So you're paying $0.06 per GB of data transfer? LOL, I wish I could buy it for that cheap, never mind make a profit from that!

From someone who's worked online in the hosting industry for over three years and has a pretty good idea of what everyone provides (both in relation to 'store front' web hosts and their upstream providers), the pricing offered through that 'host' is *well* below what would be considered a sustainable business model.

It's overselling - big time.

I would recommend refraining from purchasing hosting from this company. :)

well all i have to say is have a look over the web and see whatt the price is and then ask the company why its so cheap as usually they are just getting started or are minimizing costs in support or don't have an uptime garantee

I came across this tread after I saw the unbelievable claims ace-host.net is offering. I am looking for a 2nd cheap webhost for a side family related project. The most disturbing thing is no TOS (Terms of Service), UP (Usage Policy), or contact info on their site.

No doubt they are overselling, they might not have multiple redundant links to upstream providers, and their hardware might not be top-of-the-line, but you get what you pay for.

I just wrote an email, via a form, to the support desk asking these and more questions. For such a extremely low price it might be worth a test drive.

I’ll let you know.

Took me long enough to come back and reply, but I decided to go for it, and my site has been hosted with them since September. Everything's been going great, they have great support.. :)
It's true, I don't use that much traffic, but it's ok. My site has been down ONCE, as far as I know, since I've had it.

So there.. heh.

EVERY web hosting company oversells. If hosting was actually priced at what was being offered, single domain hosting with 1 Meg of disk space and 1 GIG bandwidth would start at $50 per month!

Think about it, companies offering unlimited 24x7 technical support, can you stay on the phone with someone 24 hours a day 7 days a week???? Are they overselling?

Data centers are the biggest oversellers of bandwidth. Even the x-owner of WHT RackShack. If every single server used the 1000 GIG of bandwidth for $99, they would lose a tremendous amount of money.

However, since nobody uses everything thats given to them, it balances out with customers that use more and use less.

Don't confuse this with offering unlimited space and bandwidth, that's wrong; but that's not what acehost is offering.

There service is great, support is great, had no problems in almost 8 months. Thumbs up!

I wouldn't say EVERY web hosting company oversells. Surely there are some webhosts, (and especially resellers) who only sell what they actually have available.
Ex: If I have a server with 5Gigs of space and 50Gigs of transfer, I can only sell to a maximum 10 customers (and preferably fewer to keep load down and prevent crashes) with a plan of 500MB of space and 5Gigs of transfer.
Surely someone out there adheres to that idea.

As for companies offering unlimited 24x7 phone support, in theory, you should absolutely be able to stay on the phone with someone 24x7, you'll likely get transferred multiple times each day and night, though.

The theory of course, is not really the case.

You wouldn't expect a person to stay on the phone for a particularly long period of time. If two people call one person, one of the callers will inevitably have to be put on hold.

If I have 50 staff members to answer the phones 24x7, and I have 100 customers, I am offering true, 24x7 support, and chances are that if 1 person wants to stay on the line 24x7, that I can have someone on the other side at all times. But if 50 other people called, someone would be put on hold. Is it overselling to not have enough phones for all of your customers to call at once? I don't think so. But really, if you want to talk to someone 24x7, you should be able to do that.

Ok, as for ace-host.net, I think there are some red flags. It looks like they are hosted on a home/dynamic IP address. They're hiding behind domainsbyproxy.com and dnsmadeeasy.com.

Personally, if I wasn't scared of it, I'd jump right into being a reseller. Imagine the profit margin of selling 10Gigs of space and 100Gigs of bandwidth when only paying $25/month.

Hi

In my opinion I reckon they are overselling greatly. They are offering very cheap prices for alot of space and bandwidth. To add to this they claim to be hosted on Duel Xeon servers.

I suggest that you should take all the comments posted here on board and do a bit more research and if you want to go for it, then why not?

Good Luck!
