View Full Version : co-location: weinbar, pwebtech, dtwebworks, who else?
StephenRS 08-23-2001, 11:45 AM Ok - I need more help :)
I'm already using two of these facilities (weinbar, pwebtech) and soon to go into the third (dtwebworks).
I need another good provider with similar price structure.
-- charges by the rack unit, $40 per 1u or less (includes power, ethernet drop).
-- offers $2.00/GB price range for 100GB.
-- has decent quality network
-- has customers here who actually can vouch for their quality
Please help! What I've found so-far:
-- efreeservers, but they have a 300GB minimum and at times I need to have "idle servers" in the rack that are doing nothing... and $200 just to pay for 1GB month is too much.
-- arpnetworks.com - but can't find anyone actually using them here on the forum - and they don't have on-site support (reboots) nights and weekends.
Please help, I'm going nuts!

This one is kind of hard.

StephenRS 08-23-2001, 12:54 PM Asia: But that is the most important one :)
There are a lot of ISP's who promise it all, you can't shop on just price... you have to find out (as best you can) if they deliver on their promise...
Vortech 08-23-2001, 02:31 PM Sorry about that was not sure Kunal.. ;) I need to back and read the rules agian.. :)
I believe http://www.affordablecolo.com meets your demands.
StephenRS 08-23-2001, 05:55 PM Yes they do, that is why I'm using them (dtwebworks). I just want another location...
StephenRS 08-25-2001, 04:39 PM Add acsdatanet to the list, going to put a co-located server in there next week.
DHWWnet 08-25-2001, 04:46 PM Are you the same guy who was looking for CoLo in the southern cali. area, a few months ago ?
brandonk 08-25-2001, 11:26 PM Tera-Byte has a new colocation plan - Plan B... $2.50/gb no other fees.
StephenRS 08-26-2001, 09:18 PM elijah - yes, I was looking for co-lo in California.
I found acsdata in LA, and another place in Burbank that do the kind of pricing I want (break out rack space from bandwidth).
StephenRS 08-26-2001, 09:21 PM I presume you mean tera-byte.com -- they want $100 per 1u server, that is pretty darn high.
Their current special $199/month (at the top under "shared colocation") -- exactly how much bandwidth are they including?
Chicken 08-26-2001, 09:59 PM I've asked Steve about that one. I believe he said 16 servers on the line, no restrictions other than the shared 10 Mbps cap for all. I believe that would translate into sometimes good and sometimes bad during peak times.

As I said, the have Plan B:
"Plan B: Your monthly bill is a direct reflection of the bandwidth you used. Your bill will reflect this and can grow substantially if your bandwidth increases."
It is $3.50/gb and their is NO rack charge...
StephenRS 09-01-2001, 03:44 PM I ended up going with acsdatanet.com - they are even CHEAPER than weinbar / Pegasus / dtwebworks - and so far just as good.
I current have servers at weinbar and pegasus for a few months now. acsdatanet.com for 2 days. Going into dtwebworks.com next week.

Just for the record (you already selected):
I believe that tera-byte.com's Plan A says that the rack charge is $100/mo unless the computer is 1U in which case there is no rack charge.
