View Full Version : Pegasus and THAT $129 Server Deal

I don't usually post here anymore. However, I have been following the threads about Pegasus, because I too signed up for the $129 server deal. I must say that when they emailed me informing me of the special offer I sent them my money straight away. Here is why...

I have been reading these forums on and off for about a year, knowing that someday I would want a dedicated server of my own. I started doing this because in my mind, I could not form a good impression of the reputation and quality of hosts in the industry in any less a time span than say six months. One thing I have learnt from reading these forums is that *every* host and every NOC will have its problems and hiccups from time to time - that is almost certain! That is life. Its reliability I'm looking for and a well managed business that can handle its growth. Pegasus are one of several hosts who are often discussed here that were on my short list.

Well, I just got my server. Everything is set up exactly as I had specified. At this point I am most cerainly happy. I hope that the service and support will continue to keep me that way ;-)

I do think that Pegasus made the mistake of not forecasting that it would take considerably longer than a few days to procure and set up what appeared to be a real spike in sales for them. I'm sure in hindsight they would have wanted to forecast the time it has taken better and not leave people with the false expectation that their server was going to be up in a matter of days. I'm sure that Jason and his staff are smart enough to have learnt from this too. However, by using reason rather than hysteria, I could see that it was taking them longer to get things done, but had the confidence, based on a long time of observation, that all would be well, and decided to be a little patient.

I can only say that in business, the annoyance and frustration of delays is something that any business person has to cope with and manage. Its part of business life. I just sense that some of the posts that have been made here about Pegasus lately have been more venting of frustration than a clear assessment of the merits of Pegasus and the quality of their service. In any case, now that I have my server up, I will be able to judge them for myself. Feel free to email me in a few months and I will be happy to give you a frank, honest and rational opinion of how I have found the service.

Cheers :)

Well, I still havnt got my order. I have called and was told to email unixded@pwebtech.com, did that and nothing. I was told that ed and jay were out of the office, but I was also told I would be up last saturday, if they knew they were going to be out of the office, why would Ed tell me this?

I am very displeased with the way pbweb has handled my account. They may be good with support. I cant imagine they are good with dedicated support since i was told its only Jay and Ed that work on the dediacted side.

anyone know what else I should do? I am working on a business plan and if the deal goes through I will need several dedicated servers. I prefer to use someone that wants and can earn my business.

Sincerly,
Brad

Keep in mind that an unexpected demand can throw even the most well prepared company for a spin.

Pegasus is obviously doing something right -- they built up a strong reputation here (for a reason) and this killer deal created orders that must've piled up quickly.

I wouldn't say this about any company, and I'm not saying that it excuses the fact that there have been huge delays. What i am saying is that _looking at their track record_ I'm sure they'll pull through and everyone will be happy.

Well, they did get my box running, so far with no problems at all. Emails to them get responded within 15 minutes.

I don't have a dedicated server with Pegasus, but I can tell you that I had the pleasure of having lunch with Jay and Ed on Tuesday, and I can tell you that lunch was interrupted 3 or 4 different times (over the course of 40 minutes or so) by Jay getting called on his cell phone. So, it's obvious to me at least that he is very dedicated to supporting customers.

Yeah, Jason, I am so, sorry about that. It was rude of me not to turn it off, but with a whole conference of people in an industry that is 24/7 I dont' think anyone really cared. But none the less, I did enjoy our lunch together, and hope that we can do business together.

Oh, I'm sorry if you took that as a complaint - it wasn't. I didn't turn my cell off, either (I just didn't happen to get any calls during lunch). I've never much had a problem with cell phones.

Anyway, I also enjoyed talking with you.

Take care,

Jason
