RunOfTheMill 08-23-2001, 01:32 AM ask on the requests forum you'll get a dozen offers for sure. :D kunal 08-23-2001, 02:34 AM you get what you pay for... you wont get a half decent server or any decent support for that kind of pricing.. you could check out 4webspace.net for a 99$ raq though.. jolly 08-23-2001, 02:38 AM I am getting 1 Ghz, 256 MB Ram , 2 GB Hdd for $94/pm but I dont need ensim control panel. Otherwise I am pretty happy with this deal... I am on lookout for better deal :D :D :D :D kunal 08-23-2001, 03:05 AM from which company is the big question :) WeinBar Jack 08-23-2001, 03:11 AM Originally posted by jolly I am getting 1 Ghz, 256 MB Ram , 2 GB Hdd for $94/pm but I dont need ensim control panel. Otherwise I am pretty happy with this deal... I am on lookout for better deal :D :D :D :D Hmmm, sounds to me like it is one of the shared servers ala Ensim's ServerXChange. You do understand that you are not getting a dedicated server, but rather a virtual server, right? Here's what the reasoning I believe this to be true is. 1. The specs of 1GHz, 256MB RAM and only a 2 GB HD? THat means it is probably a split of a hard drive. 2. Ensim control panel. If it was a true dedicated server, the Webppliance LS would not come in as part of that package. It is too expensive for any host to offer that. You may be able to find a better deal on a virtual server, but not on a dedicated server. If you want a dedicated server, I am sure you will end up paying more than 94/mo. Even without a cp. jolly 08-23-2001, 03:16 AM I will get root access for my dedicated server. WeinBar Jack 08-23-2001, 03:24 AM That's how ServerXChange works. You get root access. They put about 10 to 20 different private servers on 1 machine. Each private server has its own root access. These private servers are fine, if you are happy with shared hosting. Because, that's all it is. A fancier shared hosting system. JBIZ718 08-23-2001, 03:26 AM Keep in mind that Jolly has now spammed 5 posts with the same posts, Jolly, you are now in the Joe's suck catagory, that is just not cool Joe jolly 08-23-2001, 05:05 AM Originally posted by WeinBar Jack That's how ServerXChange works. Could you please tell me something to check out. dektong 08-23-2001, 07:13 AM Thats really new thing to me. Is there any way to check out if its shared or dedicated from the root. As Jack said, you are getting a private server (semi-dedicated shared hosting). Besides, you should be more curious as to why on earth will somebody put such a powerful specs with only 2GB of HD? (and, where will you find a 2GB of hard drive nowadays?) ... cheers, jolly 08-23-2001, 07:37 AM Is there any way to check out? WeinBar Jack 08-23-2001, 10:01 AM First thing, ask your host. They will (should) tell you. jolly 08-24-2001, 03:47 AM What should I ask ISP. Is there any way I can come to know if I get the root password of server. Chicken 08-24-2001, 04:17 AM You won't get root access to the server itself per se, but you might have access to a dedicated server-like root directory (of your VPS). I'm not entirely sure how this is handled, but your host will be able to tell you more. jolly 08-24-2001, 04:23 AM If i get # prompt in server than do you think it can help. Please tell me in detail about it. dabystru 08-24-2001, 04:57 AM There may be no way to tell if you are on dedicated or private server. You have root access, you install your own apps, which do not affect other people on the same physical server. Interesting what can you find in your /var/log/kernel or /var/log/messages files? Can you post what your get with:grep hda /var/log/* On my machine it reports, among other things, hda: ST320413A, 19092MB w/1024kB Cache, CHS=38792/16/63, UDMA(33), which means I have 20 GB hard drive. You can try grep hdb /var/log/* grep hdc /var/log/* if grep hda /var/log/* does not work. Also interesting to see, what you get with: reboot - this should reboot your server df -ah - should report filesystem disk usage What do they tell you? I am pretty sure ensim has designed it such a way it is hard to tell the difference. See also: Ensim Private Servers (http://ensim.com/solutions/sxc-arch.shtml#ps) |
