Just to start would put about 15 servers and push around 5-10Mb/s.

Ofcourse more later though.

Ameen,

Sonicwall Pro 200/300 will do some basic things you're looking for with VPN capabilities. Netscreen 100 will scale as your bandwidth increases, has a cli and has been end of lifed so they are decently priced on ebay.

You could always throw a 1u box up and create a bsd/linux firewall.

OpenBSD and Packet filter makes a very nice firewall and bandwidth manager.

But, its not going to be simple to setup and use.

Alteon ASF 5105 or better Alteon.

yeah, a nice openbsd box running pf makes for a nice/cheap firewall. Of course, the alteon's are beautiful though.

Does anyone use this - http://sofi-firewall.sourceforge.net/ or another trimmed version of openBSD just for this? Or do people use their own customized versions of openBSD?

Actually, let me rephrase, who here actually uses openBSD as the firewall for their servers (not just the people suggesting openBSD as a solution because they have heard it is a good idea)?

Checkpoint firewalls work great even though its not a hardware one. We run it on solaris machines at my work. Cisco makes a good hardware firewall as well.

A Cisco pix, if you got the cash, otherwise a sonicwall would be my next choice.
