This is just a message for anyone that does a seach for webhosting.com on these boards in the future.

some very simple words of advice.

DO NOT USER THEIR SERVICES.

I rather not get into it, but basically spread the message far and wide. WEBHOSTING.COM SUCKS!!!!

You will probably find a lot more negative references on this board, but just wanted to really drive home the point.

I don't think a desperate scream will get any results. I suggest posting in details why they suck and why people should avoid them.

It really depends on each user. My experience using webhosting.com has been great! Their support team use to be one of the worst EVER but ever since being taken over by SBC Communications, their support response time has been incredible. In the past week I've submitted 3 tickets and they promptly replied within 8-12hrs.

Also with their unlimited transfer policy I can personally vouch for this to be true. My site does on average 205gb's per month (YES 205gigabytes) and I have been actively doing this much traffic for about 1 year. btw I'm on their $19.95 plan :)

The only thing which really sucks about their service is their control panel which is really limited. They also dont support mySQL unless you go on their higher priced plans and when I run UBB on their system it gets corrupted quite a lot.. Other than that its reallly good for sites who consume a lot of traffic ;)

Well its not really a scream now, Im over and done with them. I have two sites with them, one doing relatively well(although it too experiences periodic downtime more than you should expect). But for the other domain....

here is what has/is happeneing.

The domain I am talking about has always had problems with downtime, I would usually shrug it off, but i would actually take the time to complain once a month I would assume. Their ticketing service seemed to have problems, because they now claim that they dont have that many tickets on file.. I was using about 15 gigs of traffic for their plan plus the use of SQL server addition which is 25 more/month.

About two months ago, my site would go down for blocks of time, typically 1-2 hours at a time, this would happen every few days(that I could notice). I had already "given" up on the site as a major revenue for me, so I didnt step up complaints.

A few weeks ago, I was looking to sell the site in question. And just my luck my site would go down for blocks practically EVERY day. Im not stretching the truth either. This is when I stepped up complaints.

After having a potential buyer check the site when the site was down, I become extremely upset. I called support and asked them what kind of service would let sites go down for hours at a time practically every day? He then tells me that they will look into it, but im not entitled to ANY compensation because I didnt have that many tickets on file. Now I know I sent in tickets complaining regularly but Im thinking that some didnt get through...

Regardless, of that issue, he said I needed a record of these downtimes...

SOOOOO, I start calling them in, I called 3-4 times in about 5 days. I enjoyed asking the techs their to check my site, and thankfully the site stayed down for the entire time of the call.

They actually called me once to tell me my site was finally back up, but the next day it was down again....

WHAT REALLY SET ME OFF, and is the reason for this post is this....

I asked webhosting.com what I needed to do to get a refund, I mean my site relied heavily on traffic for revenue and they had successfully suffocated my site with all the downtime. I had previously been told that if I could establish a pattern of a lot of downtime they would be able to do something.

TODAY, the tech tells me that my site needs to go down for DAYS at a time before I am entitled to anything..

WHAT IN THE WORLD KIND OF POLICY IS THAT!!!

They have a 99.9% policy that used to be plastered on their site, in the past month I honestly feel that my site barely smelled 90% uptime.

That may seem high, but combined with the slow connection, hosts here should be able to see why I am so frustrated.

But basically this days at a time downtime...

I HATE WEBHOSTING.COM WITH A PASSION.

I want to go on and on and on about this. I understand some hosts have a hard time. But they basically slapped me in the face... Im seriously pissed because I was a relaxed customer and during the sites history their I would let a lot of things slide(slow connection periodic downtime). But when things became insanely ridiculous, all they have for me is a slap in the face.

I hope I have laid out things as good as possible.

I had a great relationship with hostsave.com which is a discount provider... So I know I deserved better service than I was given.

webhosting.com=suck a** webhosting

great for a while.

site went down, received mail that a bunch of their servers were "compromised" and everything had to be changed.

great again.

last straw was when the site went down again. no notice from the company- I finally got in touch with someone and they said that they were upgrading their servers and that our site was nuked. blamed me for not having a backup- tech then, after much prompting placed a .tar of the site on a different server. I told him I would be home off of vacation in 2 days and would download it then. returned home and access was cut off- no login, no site backup, no responses.

finally got in touch with someone in customer support- and was basically told that there was nothing that I could do and I could essentially 'f' off. that it was not their fault that I did not have a backup to begin with and that they were taking no responsibility for deleting the site when they were upgrading.

now THATS customer service for you. be warned.

FYI for everyone, ATT BUSINESS BROADBAND is using
webhosting.com for it's "A la Carte", $$$, broadband features.... I decided to do some research after I asked the ATT BUSINESS BROADBAND sales rep if the web site would be hosted at an AT&T DATACENTER...his reponse "that is confidential information", which right away told me it was not at AT&T..., they, AT&T even call the $24.95 package "Lite Web" as does webhosting.com and get this !!!!, the AT&T 24.95 package does not include DNS, for which they charge another $7 per month... they call it DOMAIN NAME HOSTING, and SINCE you don't get a static IP, you HAVE to pay them the $7 for DNS....I asked the rep WHY don't you just add the $7 to the hosting costs, so we see what the REAL price is ???, he said "well, this is AT&T"...

Oops, maybe I shouldn't have bought webhosting.gb.com.
Intended using it for our new budget UK brand but
it might get tainted by a bad reputation :)
