View Full Version : Domain registrars
napme 08-22-2001, 07:42 AM Anyone know of any domain registrars where you're able to modify the organizations' name or registrant's name to just some else just XYZ.com as the registrant at any time ? Although my name appears as the sub registrant info ?
For example, whois info would show (at the registrant section) :
XYZ.com
First Name, Last Name
P.O. Box #####
City, State ZipCode
Telephone
Whereas, @Stargateinc.com it shows (at the registrant section):
First Name, Last Name
P.O. Box #####
City, State ZipCode
Telephone
And with StarGateinc.com, you are NOT able to change this ! You could only allowed to modify the technical, administration, and billing sections ONLY !
Well, I have some domains where I've just transferred to Stargateinc and I've found out that my name shows as the registrant's info. I don't like my name to be listed as registrant info but instead just the domain name only. The main reason is that I don't want anyone to sue me for any reason whatso ever.
I know that with register.com (too high, $35) or namebargain.com (just went up to $12.99) you could modify this at any time.
Are there any registrars out there that's $10 US or less where I'm able to modify this "registrant section" ?
Dedicated 08-22-2001, 08:07 AM You can try ukreg.com they allow you to modify organizations' name or registrant's name.

They are somewhat expensive based on current currency exchange rates (9 UK = around $13 US).
Anyways, thanks for the input.
TheOp 08-22-2001, 08:48 AM I have alot of domains with stargateinc.com. I was told the main reason for the inability to change registrant information is security.
If someone were to aquire your accounts username and password that individual could change ownership and take over your domain name. At stargateinc.com that risk is limited only to admin, billing and tech.
For me and my clients, it is comforting to know that registrant information cannot be changed on-line.
It is usually not imperative that my registrant information is changed within seconds. I can wait the 24 hours for their customer service team to receive my fax and apply the updates.
Chicken 08-22-2001, 08:57 AM If I reading this correct, then OpenSRS registrars, enom and enom resellers have what you want.
SoftWareRevue 08-22-2001, 09:54 AM Or, like TheOp said, I believe that stargateinc lets you do this. But in a different way.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Do they offer FREE pointing of DNS ?
Chicken 08-22-2001, 08:39 PM The enom ones do, some OpenSRS ones *may* have added services (such as DNS) but I'm not sure which ones would.
SoftWareRevue 08-22-2001, 08:41 PM And I could swear I did it once before with Stargate (through email, so they could email the registrant of record).:eek:
I may have to go do it just to see.
Chicken 08-22-2001, 08:44 PM Snuck one in there ya' did. I just checked and some domains that were pushed into a different account were indeed changed. Now I have to alter them back. They are all listed to to one Organization which isn't correct (this was due to the push).

I'd also like to confirm that enom lets you change this info, I know the fields are there and I swear I've changed this information before but would like to get a second opinion just to be sure I'm not confusing this with another time where I did it with an OpenSRS registrar. Maybe I'll submit a change just to be sure...
Please if you could confirm this for me. And how could does OpenSRS costs per year ?
Well, I'm thinking about going to one that let's me modify this and then transfer them all back to Gandi.net (Gandi.net does NOT let you modify this info) since I also have other domains there. When I do it this way, it shows at Gandi.net as :
XYZ.com ==========> This CANNOT be modified @Gandi.net
First name, Last name => Modifiable
Address info => Modifiable
City, State Zip => Modifiable
Tel/Fax => Modifiable
TheOp 08-23-2001, 02:43 PM Stargateinc.com now has online registrant changes available through their account login control panel.:D

But, thanks for the info!!:D
napme 08-23-2001, 06:16 PM I've just modified all of my domain's registrant info (organization name, address, tel/fax, etc.) several minutes ago. And the changes appeared instantly when you do a whois search.
THANKS STARGATEINC.COM !!!
I WILL DEFINITELY TRANSFER ALL OF MY DOMAINS TO THEM & STAY WITH THEM FOR A LONG TIME !!!
