<<EDIT>>
This is my first time running a public site. I was going to spend money on banner advertising but the price of $1000  is too much for a student age 17 in Australia. In my mind at the time was $20 for 500-1000 banners impressions.
Any one know any companys that advertise for $20 or near price?
My plans for this site is to get good hits and show banner ads making money for cancer research or other chariety related. 100% non-profit.

The standard market price is $20-30/1000 impressions. I don't know where you got $1000. Take a look at any site on the market and they will charge approximatly the same price

With today's advertising market conditions, I would expect that to be much lower. Many websites charge less than $20.00/1000 impressions, many even as low at $5.00-$10.00.

Yes you are absolutly right. The prices should be $20-30 but most companies are desperate right now. There is owners of web sites that don't know any better and they would even go lower. The trick is to find this guys

20 CPM easy to find but I don't think you'll find someone that will accept $20 :)
some companies like sitepoint.com accept the minimum of $500.
Good luck

The trick is to actually find small sites, that their main revenue is not advertisment. You might accept anything. Even something like $50 a month. If you do research properly you will find great things
Yeah so hard to find, mimnimal spend at most is $1000. If you see any please giveme yell.
Have you tried Google? They have no minimum and the charge is $15 per 1000 impressions, I think.

$20 for 1000 banner is too high!!! you should note that 1000 banner views will get you about 10 to 20 hits to your site. Your best bet is to spend it on a pay per click search engine.
GOTO and findwhat.com are 2 quality search engines. minimum order is $25

Hmmm.
In todays conditions, its VERY easy to find 1$ CPM.
Many of advertisements run on Yahoo were paid 1$ per thousand.
And if you are just going to run 1000impressions, then its really not worth it.
The only way people click banners is if they are repeatedly shoved in their face, a one time view wont do anything.
Just my Experienced opinion.

Try cross advertising with other related sites. I receive about 100,000 vistors/day (non-porn site, thank you) without spending a penny on advertising.
