The reseller I am with was kicked off server last week, Thursday August 16, or maybe even a day sooner.

Accounts are being moved to a new server, but have to access accounts with IP address because name servers that were assigned for my domain aren't working.

We're told that the name server "names" will stay the same, but that the IP address has changed. My registrar does not allow me to enter IP addresses for name servers.

As of today (now), 5 days later, the IP address for the nameservers still have not changed. We're not getting a straight answer on what the holdup is with the nameserver change.

Can someone explain what has to happen in a case like this and how long it would usually take for the change to take effect. The answer we've been hearing for at least 3 days now is that they are waiting for the change to propagate.

I looked up the whois info for the host and saw who their registrar is. Then I went to the registrar whois page and looked it up. The domain servers listed have the old IP addresses.

Please explain in simple terms since I don't know much about this topic.

Thanks.

If he doesn't change the IP addresses of those new nameservers to the new server basically your site will not resolve to the host.

Unless he will use the same IP address.

For some reason it often takes much longer for A (address) records to be changed in the root servers than for NS (nameserver) entries to be changed. I'm not sure why this is the case -- I certainly can't see any technical reason why this should be the case -- but while it normally only takes a couple days for a domain to be pointed at new nameservers, it often takes up to a week for nameserver IP address entries to be updated.
