View Full Version : Sphera Question

Hi, I've been looking at Sphera and I have a question about its functionality. I've had a hard time getting answers from Sphera sales, so maybe someone here knows.

Sphera is based on a virtual dedicated server model. From my research though, it looks like every website on the server must be set up as a VDS. In the past I had used vServers.com, which also offers VDS's. In their version, one VDS can hold several websites. This mimics a "real" dedicated server, where one server holds many IP-based or IP-less websites. With Sphera, it looks like each website must be a VDS, and each VDS only holds one website.

Is this true, or am I missing something somewhere?

I finally got an answer from a Sphera salesperson on my question as to whether a Sphera Virtual Dedicated Server could hold more than one website. The one-line answer I received was: "I forwarded your question to one of our engineers and the answer is no. Sorry!"

Although the Sphera system does offer some of the benifits of a traditional VDS, I don't think it can really be called a true VDS because it does not allow for one of the most basic features of a physical dedicated server: the ability to have more than one website per server.

Each VDS is more of a enhanced chrooted environment, than a Virtual Dedicated server environment from what you referring to.

But Sphera takes chrooting to a whole new level, enabling alot of dedicated server like features for a single website, such as having invidiual instances of mysql, apache and java, and any application you want to install you can install within your VDS, so in that respect it has dedicated server funcationality, but it is not like ENSIM where you have 5 VDS's per box and a 1000 sites.
